Chapter 40
I exited the car and shut the door, staring at the eleven story building before me and wondering if I was supposed to be here. This was the address on Imela’s contact list, and the Google Maps directions brought me here. It had to be it.
The address said the company’s floors were the seventh and eighth, depending on the client’s needs. Information on services provided and general needs, as well as the staff floor, was on the seventh, while the executives and conference room were on the eighth. However, the clients only went to the eighth floor by appointment or invitation, and here I was without an invitation or appointment, wanting to get up there.
I could have called, but I knew I wouldn’t know what to say, I could have sent an email, but I didn’t want to. Besides, I was much more efficient in face–to–face conversations. Hopefully, she doesn’t kick me out.
I got into the elevator and counted the seconds while thinking of what to say as soon as I got down
The elevator arrived at the eighth floor and opened, and as I stepped out, I found a man about six feet. five inches tall, standing there, already waiting for me. He approached me immediately, and he didn’t look very friendly.
Here we go.
“Do you have an appointment, sir?” He asked, his tone formal but not as terrifying as I thought it would
- be.
“My name is Oliver Plane, a client of Ms. August Garcia,” I answered, even though that wasn’t the answer to his question.
“Do you have an appointment?”
I opened my mouth to speak, but I caught sight of Ingrid at the back. “Ms. Mason,” I called out, and her eyes moved over to me; though they narrowed on me for a while, they soon recalled my face.
“Mr. Plane,” she called and stepped towards us, but her confusion lingered. “What are you doing here?”
“I came to see Ms. August Garcia. Is she in?”
“Yes, but she doesn’t speak to clients without appointments.” She replied and had a helpless look on her face. “We have a strict policy on that.”
“If she’s busy, I can wait,” I suggested.
“You need an appointment even to be here.” The man said, bringing my attention back to him, and he

didn’t look very pleased with me now. “Sir, I am going to ask you to leave.”
I didn’t want to put up a fight: I knew how these things worked, and I was in the wrong for not making an appointment first if I wanted to see imela.
“Fine, I will leave. I am sorry for barging in and interrupting your day.” I said that and turned to leave.
“What’s happening here?” I heard Imela, and everything stilled except for my beating heart.
“Ms Garcia, Mr Plane came here to see you, but he didn’t make an appointment,” Ingrid said and walked over towards her. “He’s leaving now.”
She stayed silent for a while before saying, “It’s fine, Benjamin; he can come in.”
I turned around, and the man stepped away from my path. Imela walked on, and I followed behind.
“We do not take visits without an appointment because we do not want to risk the privacy of our clients. We protect their image as we take care of their finances.” She said and pushed open the door to her office. “It is a strict rule, and it applies to everyone, even you, because we hope to treat everyone equally.”
“I know, and I am sorry I made you break that rule.”
She almost smiled and took her seat. “The Planes enterprise is our first client, so it’s fine to bend the rule.” She replied, “Why did you come? I want to assume it isn’t meant to make me bend my rule.”
I laughed and shook my head. “No, I came to give you this.” I stepped forward, dug my hand into the inner pocket of my suit, and pulled out an invitation card before handing it to her.
She took it, and her eyes lingered on me in suspicion. “A wedding invitation?” she asked before she looked
at it.
I laughed and shook my head again. “No, not yet. It’s the anniversary of the Plane enterprise, and that’s your formal invitation.”

She glanced back at me, and curiosity eyes. “You could have sent it via email or, better yet, called, and I would have come to pick it up.”
I knew that, too, but for some weird reason, I just wanted to deliver it myself.
I shrugged. “I wanted to come myself. In the last month, you have been a huge part of the enterprise, and so I felt I owed it to you.” I answered.
“I appreciate it, but are you sure your fiancée will approve of my presence?” Her brow raised, and she placed her elbows on her desk.
This action was harmless, but just like the last time, the first two buttons were undone, and I saw her

smooth skin, and my throat ran dry, I tore my gaze away and returned it to her face,
I cleared my throat, knowing I had yet to give an answer to her question. “My fiancée understands how business works; do not worry about that.”
She nodded. “Then it is settled; I will be there. You have my
word.”
I smiled, happy to have achieved the goal I set out for. “I am glad to hear that, Ms. Garcia. I will see you at the party then.”
“I will see you too, Mr. Plane.”
I turned to take my leave when the door opened, and in walked Benjamin, Imela’s guard, and with him was a little boy. He looked no older than four, with blond–brown hair, big brown eyes, a pointed nose, and a smile that took my breath away. He looked happy and energetic as if there was no better place in
the world he could be in now.
“Mama!” he called out with the most excited look I have ever seen as he hurried past me and over to
Imela.
