Chapter 47
Third POV
Seth didn’t want to be here; it was too crowded, and he felt eyes on him as he made his way around. Because his overdose made the news and got people talking, many knew about his addiction. Although he checked into rehab to get himself clean, he didn’t do it for anyone, not even his parents.
It was for Jesse, his nephew.
When Nina visited him at the hospital, she had brought her son along. He saw how brightly the little angel smiled at him, and he wanted to be a better uncle to him.
He checked into rehab the following week and has kept an image of Jesse in his mind ever since.
He came here today because Oliver invited him, and he also told him something noteworthy. Imela had a son, and Oliver believed it was his. It didn’t make much sense when Oliver said it to him, but after he left, Seth thought about it.
Oliver thought Imela’s son was his because of the lie they told four years ago against Imela. It was a lie, and if it was a lie, it meant Imela son was Oliver’s, and he deserved to know that.
The night was splendid, as music and speeches were given by executives and partners who had stayed true to the Plane Enterprise over the years.
He tried speaking to Oliver, but he seemed to have been heading out and didn’t give him the attention he
needed, so he would wait.
“Hey, brother!” He heard his sister and favourite sibling call to him. “What’s wrong?”
He shook his head, “Nothing.” He answered, but Nina didn’t believe him. “How’s Jesse?” he asked, changing the topic.
Nina’s eyes lit up. “He’s great! I should have brought him along, but then I’d have to carry him everywhere, and Jesse is a big boy.”
He shook his head and smiled. “It’s good.”
“It’s not; I’m sure Jesse already misses you and would have been excited to see you.” she smiled.
For as long as he could remember, Nina and Oliver had been the two people on his side, and he betrayed them when he destroyed the only good thing in Oliver’s life. He betrayed them. What he did made it easier for Ivory to destroyed Nina’s relationship with her boyfriend and, in the end, marry Eddie McQueen. He ruined two lives with his actions, and it was because he was a coward who couldn’t stand

up to his mother and say no.
Nina and Oliver had visited him many times while in rehab, while Ivory visited once.
He couldn’t even imagine what they would think of him if they were to find out the truth–that he had
been behind their lost love and suffering.
They would probably never forgive him. Oliver won’t.
“I am sorry.” He said it remorsefully.
Nina’s confusion almost buried her smile. “For what? It’s not your fault. I need to speak to Dad,” she
rubbed her hand over his shoulder in comfort. “We need to meet up.”
He nodded. “Okay.”

She hugged him tightly, and he held onto her. “Lunch on Thursday, then. You, me, and Jesse?”
“Sounds great.”
He watched Nina walk away, and his heart burned in his chest. A tear ran down his face, and he wiped it off. His hands trembled, and he couldn’t control his emotions. If he hadn’t messed things up, her life
would have been different.
His eyes caught Imela standing in the corner of the room with a strange man he didn’t know.
She was the one he wronged the most.
She didn’t deserve any of what she went through when her only offence was loving a Plane. When he heard about her disappearance, he thought she had died, and he could only blame himself. The drugs were to help him escape the reality he created. It soon became his reality, as well as a nightmare.
He had once thought he loved her and deserved her, but he realised he never did. No one would hurt the person they love the way he did; what he deserved was hell.
What a cruel soul he had been to those he was supposed to love!
He walked over to her, and her smile withered away. He didn’t know what to say or how to start, but he would start anyway. “Imela, hey.”
“Seth,” she called, and she didn’t hold any tone of resentment or hate towards him as he expected–as she
should.
The man beside her kissed her temple and stepped away to give us space.
“Your boyfriend?”

“Ves.” She replied

“What do you think? She asked, and her eyes locked in hoc, and they were costat.

“Ocean isn’t Oliver’s son.” She replied flatly
He drew a sharp breath, and he looked miserable. “I am sorry
“I do not need your apology, I want to know why.”
“Because I was weak Oliver was always right about me not having guts and always being afraid.” His lashes fluttered, and he pressed his lips together. “I had a choice to choose Oliver or myself, and I picked myself. I am a coward of a person and a failure of a brother, and I am sorry I ruined your life.
This made her smile and shake her head. “You didn’t ruin my life. You only placed me on the path to my place in life.”
He laughed despite his sorrow. “I guess that is a way to look at it.” He took her hands before he could stop himself, but Imela didn’t pull away, “I will make it right; I promise you that.”
He released her hands and walked away from her. He couldn’t go over to Oliver immediately because the time for his speech drew close. His brother would go up any minute, so Seth stepped out to get some fresh
air.
He didn’t know how long he stood outside, but when he tried going inside, the guards wouldn’t let him get through.
“What the hell? I just came out to get air.”
“We have orders, and we are following them.” The man in a black suit with blond hair answered.
“Who gave the order?” He demanded, but they didn’t look ready to answer, “Who gave the damn orders?” he exploded.
This was Ivory’s doing. She had taken pleasure in making his life a little more miserable.
“We advise you to leave now so we won’t have to hand you over to the police.” The other man with a short dreadlock answered.
Seth laughed in disbelief and stepped back before launching himself at them, but they caught him and
subdued him.

“What are you doing?” Cecil asked, even as the guards had him pinned to the ground.
Seth glanced up and found her staring down at him. “What does it look like?”
“Let him go.” She instructed the guards, and they released him and stepped back to their post.
He pulled himself up from the ground and dusted off his brown suit, spitting out the blood in his mouth.
“What are you doing here, Seth?” She asked, and her tone came off as frustrated.
He scoffed, surprised by her audacity to ask such a question. “This is the Plane Enterprise anniversary, and last I checked, I still had Plane in my name. No offence, but I have more right to be in there than you
do.”
“And yet, you’re not.” She took a step forward and folded her arms across her chest. “What was so important you wanted to tell Oliver earlier?”
He spat the blood that had formed in his mouth out again. “I owe you this explanation because we are such good friends.”
She stepped forward, “If it is what I think you want to tell him, I would advise you to think about it carefully and ask yourself if it is really worth it.”
His teeth gritted. “Oliver deserves to know the truth, and so does Imela. They deserve to know what we
did to them.”
“Why? What good is that going to do for him now? Imela moved on and now has a partner, as does Oliver. The only one who hasn’t moved on is you. Yes, we may have had a hand in it, but it was for the greater good.”
He had thought about it and knew they wouldn’t, but the truth terrified him.
“How do you sleep at night knowing what we did?” he asked, genuinely curious.
“I reminded myself that it was necessary.” She replied, “Think of the destruction the truth would bring to everyone involved–your mother, myself, and you. Do you think they will ever forgive you after what you
have done?”
“It is for the best.”
“For who? You? You are just as selfish as you were four years ago. Just because your life is in ruin doesn’t mean you have to drag everyone along with it.” she said.
“She’s right,” Ivory spoke from behind him, and he turned to find his mother there. He didn’t know how long she had stayed there, but it was long enough to hear the final part. “You shouldn’t have come for the event tonight.”

“So, you locked me out.”
“I am protecting the family.”
“I am a part of the family!” he barked at her. “Or did you forget that?”
She walked over to him and took his face in her hands. “This path you have taken will destroy the family.”
“There is no family if it is built on lies and secrets.” He growled and shoved her hand away from his face.
Her eyes flared, and her teeth gritted. “There is a family; you do not see it because you are not a part of it. I will not let you destroy it.”
“What are you going to do?”
“Believe me, you do not want to know.”
