Chapter 48
Imela’s presence at the anniversary party sparked a fascinating conversation online and on the news during the weekend. It was her first official outing in the States, and they were honoured to be the first to have her. This generated more positive marks for the Plane Enterprise than they had seen.
The Garcia Group was a force to be reckoned with, and seeing the CEO at their fiftieth–anniversary party moved them into a positive light. It meant that their days of struggle would soon be behind them. Ultimately, the night that had started rough had become a breakthrough,
The last thing Oliver expected to receive this Monday was a phone call from Ivory at the hospital.
Seth had attempted suicide and was in terrible condition at the hospital.
He had to abandon everything he was doing at the office and hurried over to the hospital, where he found Ivory already there with Robert, looking miserable.
He spotted Nina in the corner with her head bowed.
“What happened?” He asked, stopping before them.
“We received a phone call from his housekeeper over an hour ago. She found him on the floor with a
rope around his neck. She said she saw the same rope hanging from the ceiling. After calling 911, she
contacted us. Seth tried to end his own life.” Ivory explained, and more tears streamed down her face.
Robert’s arms tightened around her, hoping to console her, but she cried harder.
Oliver stood utterly confused, both because he didn’t see this coming and had never seen Ivory so
miserable.
“What are the chances of his survival?” he asked.
Robb shook his head. “The doctors have yet to tell us anything. They all went in there with him, trying to
save his life.”
“I did this to him.” Ivory cried. “I told him so many horrible things at the party,” I told him he was no longer a part of the family. It’s my fault; I pushed him to do this.”
“Do not say that.” Robb hushed her up. “You didn’t know he was not still himself, especially after
everything he’s been through.”
“Oh, my baby.” Ivory cried harder.
Oliver came to sit beside Nina, who had her head buried in her palm and hadn’t said a thing or moved to

acknowledge his presence since he arrived.
“I am sorry.”
Her head lifted, and her eyes fixed on him. They were red and puffy, and he knew she had been crying for a while. She also looked angry, and she wasn’t trying to hide it. “Why? What happened to him wasn’t your fault. If anything. Ivory is to blame.” She answered.
Ivory said that earlier, but he assumed she was exaggerating. Nina believed it, too.
“Seth didn’t leave early during the party; Ivory wouldn’t let him back in,” she revealed.
Oliver had hoped to speak to Seth just as promised but was a little unhappy when he couldn’t find him after his speech.
“Oh.”
“I asked her why, and she told me he would bring bad press, and the focus would only be on him. Tell me what type of mother would do that to her son.” She demanded, and a painful tear fell. “I called Seth to ensure he was okay; he told me he was, but that was a lie. I should have done more. He texted me three hours ago, saying he was sorry, and I didn’t know what it meant. He had been saying that for a while now, and I thought it was like the others. I should have called him back, Oliver. I should have called him.”
At her word, Oliver reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone; it had beeped three hours ago, too, but he ignored it, not wanting to be distracted from work. He unlocked it and pulled down the message notification, only to see that it was from Seth.
<I’m sorry for everything.>
Received at 1:34 p.m.
From Seth
He had also left him a message before. Perhaps if he had looked at it, he would have reached out, and this wouldn’t have happened. Yes, they had their differences, but he was still his older brother, and he loved and looked out for him as much as he could. Today, he failed. He had prioritised work, and now they were losing Seth.
Nina’s whimpers pulled him out of his thoughts. He wrapped his arms around her to comfort his grieving sister while trying to steady his guilt–gripped heart. They had been in this position when Seth overdosed months ago, but it had been an accidental overdose; now, it was a different reason. Seth had attempted suicide. He wanted to die; he didn’t want to be a part of this world anymore. It had a heavier weight on
them all.
“He’ll be fine.”

“How do you know that?”
He didn’t, but he had to hold on to that hope for as long as possible.
The doctor in charge of Seth’s emergency treatment walked up to Robb and Ivory, and Oliver rose and made his way to them as well.
“How is he?” Robb asked.
“He’s stable and out of the woods. It was a good thing the rope gave out when it did, or the maid wouldn’t have found him alive.” The doctor replied.
“So, he’s going to be fine, right?” Ivory asked.
“There was a high dose of alcohol in his system but no trace of drugs, and he also suffered a blunt force to his head when he fell.” That has triggered the core part of his brain. “We can only see how far the
damage went after he woke up.” He explained it to them.
“Can I go to him?” Ivory asked, and the doctor nodded, leading her away from them.
Oliver found Imela not far away, speaking to the nurse at the counter, and his brows furrowed in
confusion.
“I told her where we were,” Nina spoke from behind as if reading his mind and seeing the question that played inside.
Imela’s attention turned, and she saw them standing not very far away, so she approached. Oliver walked up to her, meeting her halfway.
“What are you doing here?” Nina might have told her where she was, but she didn’t have to come.
“Nina told me she was at the hospital and gave me the address; also, I got a message from Seth hours ago saying he was sorry.” She replied and flashed her phone to his face so he could see and read the message, which was the same as the one he received. “Is everything alright?” she asked, and concern showed in
her face.
“No,” he shook his head and sighed. “He attempted suicide,” he replied.
Imela looked stunned, and she didn’t say anything for over a minute. “Why would he?”
No one would know what pushed him to take that decision, but Oliver could point out a few situations that could have led him to that point. “Because mom was horrible to him as usual. At the party, you were
kind to him. I saw.” He revealed.
She didn’t try to deny it. “There is no need to kick a man already down.” She replied, showing that she was a better person than most.

Ivory refused to leave Seth’s side. She said she wanted to be the first face he’d see when he woke, so Robb had to leave her behind at the hospital with him.
Imela also took her leave after an hour at the hospital; her presence was greatly appreciated, and she offered to drive Nina home, Nina agreed, and the two women left together.
Oliver couldn’t return to work, not after everything. He called and informed his PA he wouldn’t return to work and asked her to clear his appointments and cite a family emergency as a reason.
He didn’t anticipate Cecil confronting him when he got home, but that’s precisely what happened.
He found her standing in the living room with her arms crossed around her chest, her usual pose when he had done something wrong. He didn’t do anything bad that he could think of, and at this point, he
didn’t care much.
“How long have you known that Imela has a son?” Cecil asked, stepping towards Oliver with a challenging look on her face.
He groaned and shrugged off his jacket, walking past her and towards the bedroom. “Because it is none of your business and I do not have the energy for your drama this time. I have better things to worry about.”
“Why is that?” She followed behind him, her heels clicking the stairs with every step, giving him a massive headache.
He turned to her, holding a murderous look on his face. “Because Seth tried to kill himself, that’s why.” He replied.
