Oliver’s POV
The anger and the helplessness of knowing her back was against the wall showed themselves on Cecil’s face. This was business and not a personal affair. Ela was a very business–minded person and kept everything professional. It was a show of respect to everyone seated, but Cecil didn’t care about how she looked.
She turned to me a few times, but I could do nothing. If I were to rise, Lewys would have attacked me, and I also didn’t want to get up. Ela was offering to buy Stop, and in so doing, I wouldn’t lose my investment. This was a win for everyone, including Cecil, but she didn’t see that.
Getting fired on the spot made things worse.
The security team marched in and came to lead her out, and Ela followed them. I followed,
“You think this is the end?” she demanded as soon as they were out. “You think you are just going to come here and take everything away from me?”
Imela gave her a pitiful look. “I think the answer to that is yes, I can.” She took a step forward. “And as for Stop, I like the name. So I will keep it. I want you to see it and be reminded of what you lost, amongst other things.”
“You witch!” she launched at Ela, but the security guards pulled her away before she would embarrass herself any further.
She cussed and kicked all the way out. She was threatening to get back at Ela for humiliating her the way
she had.
I’d never seen her so angry–so vile. It felt like watching the birth of another creature, one I didn’t know
or want to go near.
“It was hard to watch,” I mumbled and gulped my whiskey. “I’ve never seen her so angry before.”
“That’s brutal, though, being fired from your own company. I don’t know what I would do.” Vivian answered from beside me.
Vivian had stopped by Plane Enterprises two hours ago and didn’t see me there. He called, and I told him where I had brought myself. Yellow Bar was one of a few millionaire’s bars across the state. Being allowed inside only happened based on status and connection. Sir Lockwood, who became a close friend after we met at a millionaire’s club, brought me here for my twentieth birthday. It turned out he owned this bar and the club where we first met, among other things.

How I had the right to this place despite my notorious history was all thanks to Sir. I loved Yello; it was the one place I could come and have peace and comfort and not have to look over my shoulder every time. It was my escape haven–except for the days Vivian tagged along. Today was one of those days.
Vivian asked if I was alright, and though I told him I was, he wanted to make sure. The bastard’s audacity in thinking I would lie about where I was.
When he came and saw me in one piece, he apologised and told me he got worried since I closed earlier than usual today. I told him it had nothing to do with me and everything to do with the new directions, especially at Stop.
I shrugged, not really feeling sorry for her. “She did this to herself; if she had never taken such a silly risk in the first place, she would still have Stop. When she realised what she had done, she could have told the truth instead of keeping it a secret. I do not like her method, but Ela did us all a favour. I would have asked her to keep Cecil around, perhaps in a smaller role, but she’s the boss of Stop, and what she says
goes.”
“That won’t be easy, getting acquainted with a new boss.”
It was an indifferent feeling, to be honest. “She seemed to get along well with the other board members, even Maggie. I have no problem with her; we already have a working history. She presented a new initiative this morning after Cecil left. She believes it would keep us afloat and make a profit until the nation pulls itself out of recession. She has a lot more to lose now, so I think she will do all she can so we can survive. She is a genius–an unbelievably beautiful one.” I gushed the last part in my mind.
Vivian’s head whipped around to stare at me, and he had a narrowed look.
Shit! Did I say that out loud?
“Yes, you did. What are you not telling me, Oliver Plane?”
I had to come clean and tell him what happened two weeks ago at the Planes‘ anniversary.
“Dude, that’s crazy; she has a boyfriend, and you are engaged,” Vivian reminded me, slightly disappointed.
“I know, but at that moment, I didn’t care about any of it.” My hand ran through my hair. “I just wanted her. I know now that what I did–trying to kiss her–was a jerk move, but I couldn’t control myself. She looked so good and happy with Fermín; it made my heart bleed.”
“You still love her.” It wasn’t a question; it was a statement–a fact.
I gulped the whiskey. “It doesn’t matter; she is happy with Fermín, and I think she deserves happiness. Our stories happened four years ago, and it is expected for anyone to have moved on.
“Anyone but you.”

Vivian didn’t have an answer to that one, he didn’t have to say anything; he had said enough.
1 rose to my feet, and Vivian rose as well; he hadn’t had a drop of alcohol, and so he was one hundred per cent sober.
He was about to offer me a ride, and I didn’t want to inconvenience him. I held my hand out to him and said, “Thank you; I will call a ride.” I told him.
