Chapter 72
Oliver drove to Lawrence Hospital, where the news reported that Marcel had been since he suffered a heart attack. Knowing everything he knew, he couldn’t go to the Plane Enterprise or the Garcia Group in search of her; this was the best place to find her.
He got down and made his way into the hospital with a heavily beating heart. A few reporters turned their cameras on him, but he didn’t care about that and answered none of their questions as he walked inside, which was easier said than done.
He approached the nurse at the counter for directions to where Marcel García was, and he followed the instructions she gave. He was here for Imela, but asking for Marcel’s ward would make it easier.
He walked through the hallway to the ward and saw Ela step out, holding Ocean’s hand.
His heart skipped at their sight, and everything else slowed.
Seth didn’t speak about Ocean, but Oliver didn’t need him to. The little angel was his son. This brave young soldier came out of the love he and Ela once shared. She was his mother, and he was his father. He
couldn’t call himself a father when he was never in Ocean’s life. He had to earn that title.
He missed four years of his life because of what they did to him–what he did to himself for choosing
everyone but Imela. Four years that he would never get back.
He took a step towards her, and she paused in her step, watching him, and she no longer had the anger
and resentment she usually did. Something had changed within her, and it showed.
“What are you doing here, Oliver?” She broke the silence that had weighed over them for over a minute
to ask.
“I am sorry.” He said, and she stared at him blankly.
“For what?” She raised a brow, and he realised he wasn’t being specific; there was a lot he had to be sorry
for, one of which was storming out days ago the way he did.
“For everything.” He replied, adding, “Seth told me everything. I don’t know where to begin, but I am
sorry.”
Her eyes flickered, aware of what that meant, and she pressed her lips together. “It doesn’t matter
anymore, Oliver.” She said in a small voice. “You should leave.”
“He does matter to me, and I can’t leave yet. I came to ask for your forgiveness for everything I did. I was a fool, and I was cruel. There is no excuse for what I did to you, to us. I was the man who swore to protect you from the world, and not only did I fail in keeping that promise, but I hurt you just like the rest did. I

am sorry for abandoning you when you needed me the most.”
Emotions flooded into her face, but she padded them with great control.
A painful tear slid down his face, and his hands trembled, but he fisted them to keep going. “You have every right to hate and want to ruin me. You have every right to resent my very existence because I turned my back on you and believed everything else but you. I should never have doubted your love for me, and you were the only one who truly loved me. You deserved a better man, a better husband, and I am sorry I was never that to you. You didn’t betray me like I thought you did; I betrayed you. I should have stayed. I should have listened. I don’t know how you look at me; I can’t stand to look at myself with the truth. But I will forever be sorry for what I could never be for you forever sorry for letting you go through it all alone. I ask for your forgiveness even though I do not deserve it.” By the time he finished, he was a weeping mess. How he got his voice to comply with him was still a miracle.
A tear slid down Ela’s face, and she wiped it away.
“Thank you for saying those words,” she said, sniffing weakly. “I was angry, and I wanted you miserable, but not anymore. I have everything I could have ever asked for with me. I need to look around and see
that I already won.”
His eyes moved to Ocean, who had stood silent beside his mother since he came. His tiny hands were now wrapped around her legs, and his big brown eyes were confused.
Oliver wiped off the tear stains, and his head lifted to see Imela again. “I would understand if you do not
want me in his life; I don’t think I deserve to be called his father after everything.”
“I can’t tell him,” she replied.
He nodded in understanding and said, “It’s fine.”
“At least not now. A lot is happening.” She revealed this, and this meant there was a chance she would
introduce him to Ocean as his father soon.
His heart leapt for joy, and he sniffed weakly. “I completely understand.”
“How is Marcel?” he asked, changing the topic.
Her eyes warmed up at his question. “He’s fine; he is awake now.”
Her joy made him feel a little bit better. “Do you need me to stay with you?”
She shook her head. “I don’t, Mr. Plane.”
“Then I do not want to stay longer than I’m needed,” he said, stepping back.
“I didn’t tell Robb you quit.” She spoke while he walked away. “You can return to work if you hope to

meet your percentage. Unless your mind is made up never to return.”
He halted and smiled, knowing what this offer meant.
He had left, hoping never to return, but life has taken a different course since then. “Do I not at least deserve a query letter?” he asked, turning to her.
She smiled, and the next sentence she uttered was formal. “Fine, Mr. Plane, you will get one tonight. I expect a letter of apology in my mail tomorrow morning.”
“I will do that, Ms. Garcia.” He bowed his head in respect. “I will be at work tomorrow morning, and you will get your letter.”
He had another chance to make things right, and he wouldn’t blow it.
