The night was deep and heavy, reflecting the weight in my chest.
I felt like my heart had been ripped to shreds, leaving me too weak to confront
Alexander right away.
He didn’t notice anything wrong when he got back. He just collapsed into bed and
fell asleep. []
I quietly took his phone and slipped into the bathroom.
If I was going to be hurt, I needed to know the full truth.
I tried another password I had just seen him use earlier.
The phone unlocked, revealing a completely different side of him.
On another account, I found countless group chats filled with trust–fund kids.
In one large company group, Alexander was the boss.
Suddenly, a message popped up from someone named Emily Lane.
“I’m coming back the day after tomorrow. Are you really not going to pick me up?”
“We were together for so many years, and just because of that accident, we didn’t
get married. Do you really hate me that much?”
So, this was Alexander’s “one true love,” his ex? [
I scrolled through their chat history and saw that he had sent her gifts worth
hundreds of thousands, without a second thought.
There were endless transfers: $1000, $2000, $3000–one after another.
The latest transfer was just five days ago.
At the time, we were shopping together, and he had complained about the $6
condoms being too expensive, insisting I get the $10 birth control pills instead.
Yet, he turned around and transferred $4.00 to Emily Lane just because she suddenly
craved a fancy dinner.
Tears dripped onto the phone screen.
I had been living a complete joke.
I checked her social media, and there she was–Emily, jet–setting around the world,
visiting every luxury destination.
The woman looked like a slightly more glamorous version of me, only draped in []
designer labels from head to toe.
Meanwhile, I was curled up in a bathroom, wearing a cheap discount–store

In a pinned chat group full of wealthy heirs, someone suddenly tagged Alexander. [
“Let’s hit the bars in a few days.”
“I’ve got some girls coming. Why’s Alexander still single at 28, not even dating? []

As I watched the rich kids mock and laugh, my hands shook as I typed.
This meant that Alexander hadn’t even told his friends I existed–not as a girlfriend,
not even as a wire.
