Chapter 8
Mr. and Mrs. Carter gasped, covering their mouths.
“Alexander, are you okay?” Mrs. Carter rushed over, her voice full of concern.]
She shot me a furious look. “You’re nothing but a shrew!”
shrew.“[]
“That’s right, I’m a shrew.”
*So, tell him to hurry up and divorce me!”
I crossed my arms. “I can’t stand being married to a jerk like him!“]
To think he used me as a stand–in? Six years of my life wasted![]
I turned and walked away, and this time, no one tried to stop me.
But Alexander still wouldn’t give up. He kept calling and texting me. []
“Emma, think this through. You’ll never find anyone better than me!”
“I’m warning you–come back and apologize on your knees, or I really will divorce
you.“[]
Hearing the arrogance and ego dripping from his voice on the other end, I just
laughed.
“Great! Let’s do it. See you at the courthouse in two days. Whoever backs out is a
coward!”
Just the thought of still having my name on the same marriage certificate as his made
me sick to my stomach.]
Without him, my career finally took off.
Back when I wanted to launch my own projects and start a business, he’d always PUA
me, saying I wasn’t good enough and that I was wasting my time.
He held me back, making sure I was there to cook for him every day.
When he was gaming, he’d tell me not to work near him because I’d “distract him,
feeding me negativity day in and day out.
For years, I’d gotten used to enduring it, being submissive.
But the moment I walked away from him, I felt lighter than ever.
I rented myself a cozy little apartment, free of his mess and habits.
No more alcohol or cigarette smoke–everything was tidy and peaceful. []
While fighting the divorce case, I jumped to a better job and even landed a $100,000
project bonus.[]
When Alexander received the court summons, he lost it.
Meanwhile, I hired a few online marketing agencies to blow the story up.
I even paid for some trending hashtags.
The situation was so bizarre that it caught the attention of countless users online.
Although I never mentioned names, it didn’t take long for sharp–eyed Internet
sleuths to piece it together.
They quickly figured out who the main characters were.
life![]
“No way! This actually happened in real life!”
“Billionaire? More like the cheapest man alive–splitting hotel bills with his wife?![]
Unbelievable.” []
“Tm shook. I thought billionaires would at least splurge on fancy stuff, but this guy’s
complaining about $6 condoms?”
“It’s one thing to play poor, but this is too much!”
“The wife was clearly in love, but the husband? Yeah, he’s trash.”
“Don’t insult trash! Trash has feelings too. LOL!*
The internet had a field day, and the Carter family became a laughingstock.
Alexander was harassed online, and even the employees at Carter Enterprises were
making fun of him.
Of course, I wasn’t about to let up.
I opened a social media account and live–streamed our divorce.]
