Chapter 150
Stealing herself, Annie stepped out of the restroom and back into Alexander’s hospital room. She softened her expression, switching frustration to a mask of concern. “We should start getting ready to go home,” she said softly, her voice laced with
care.
Alexander didn’t even turn to face her. His gaze was distant, his expression unreadable. “I still need to stay here for another couple of weeks,” he replied flatly.
Annie bit the inside of her cheek but forged ahead, desperate to change his mind. “We can do that at home, with better facilities and doctors,” she insisted, her hand straying instinctively to her stomach. She knew what she was doing, she was playing the pregnancy card to gain his sympathy. “Our baby needs to rest, Alexander.”
The words hung in the air, yet didn’t exactly have quite the effect she had been hoping they would. Alexander turned to her then, his gaze as cold and impassive as always. “I did not force you to come here,” he said shortly. “You’re free to go when you please.”
His words stung, and Annie was taken aback for a moment. Turning away from her, he dismissed her presence; his thoughts were elsewhere. She fisted both hands to her sides, trying to
hold her anger in.
Alexander did not have to stay in the hospital for any medical reasons.
As a matter of fact, he could have being discharged several days prior but he just don’t want to leave. He couldn’t handle the thought of him being that far away from Emma after what had happened a month earlier.
Emma had almost died. The incident had shaken years.

Annie’s voice cut through his thoughts, shaking with frustration. I just want what’s best for us, Alexander. For you, for me, for our baby.”
But Alexander said nothing.
