Annie’s words cut, yet Emma knew better than to show it.
“He was never yours,” Emma said quietly but firmly, her tone felt like dagger wrapped in silk.
Annie snorted, her lips curled in disdain. “Because he fucked you once, you think he’s yours now?” her voice cracked then, the scene she had watched just an hour ago burning like wildfire in her mind, refusing to let go.
A humorless smile curled Emma’s lips. She took another step closer, her calm voice hiding the tempest raged inside,
“He has been mine from day one, Annie. We were betrothed long before you were in the picture.”
Annie’s nostrils fumed. “And yet, despite your precious betrothal he divorced you for me. He chose me, Emma. Do you know what that feels like? To be the chosen one? I doubt it.” Her veins became visible, pulsating fast as anger coursed through them.
