Chapter 30
Luke wrapped his arms around her back, and Camille stayed there quietly like a wounded animal.
After a long silence, he spoke softly in her ear, “Wait here for me. Don’t move. I’ll get the car. You should take the rest of the night off.”
She nodded gently in his arms and tried to free herself, but he did not let her go.
His body stiffened slightly. His lips brushed against her hair. It felt ticklish, and he could smell her scent.
“What’s… wrong?” Camille opened her red eyes to look at his emotionless face.
“Nothing,” Luke hid his embarrassment and turned towards the opposite side of the road. He showed his back to her as he walked back toward Leicester Hotel. It smelled good, he thought What shampoo did she use…
She squatted on the side of the road and buried her head in her knees.
Luke drove the car out and opened the door for her.
She stood up and tried to rub the pain from her
eyes.
But she froze-
Luke followed her gaze and looked over.
Trevor was standing just a few meters away, looking at Camille.
Trevor looked a bit wretched. The cigarette between his fingers fell on the ground. He was pursing his lips, and his well- defined face was shrouded in a dark expression. He did not hide his anger. It was as if he wanted to fight someone.
Trevor stared at Camille and took a step forward.
It was as if an arrow had shot her in the heart. She took a step backward in panic.
Trevor stepped forward again. She did not know where to put her hands. She kept stepping backward until she tripped.
Trevor saw her falling and ran toward her, holding her in his arms. It was just like all those years ago. He liked hugging her. He liked…
Camille did not speak. Pleading, she turned her eyes to Luke, who was watching them.
It was as if Luke’s nerves were struck. Countless thoughts flashed through his mind. He hurriedly stepped off the car and ripped Camille out of Trevor’s arms.
He pulled her behind him as if to protect her.
Camille did not dare to open her eyes. She did not want Trevor to see her…
Luke did not know what had happened between her and Trevor
“Camille.” Trevor took a step forward. “It’s me…”
She hunched in on herself, fingers clutching Luke’s clothes to hide behind him. She did not speak.
She felt that she looked pathetic. It was not much better than being covered in blood, chained in prison. Her whole body tensed up.

Chapter 30
“It’s me. I’m Trevor. Don’t you recognize me?” He stepped forward again. “Look at me. Look at me!”
He roared.
Luke wanted to speak but did not know what to say in front of them.
He knew nothing about her or them.
“Please… look at me.” Trevor’s voice was pleading. He reached out his hand to grab her.
“Don’t force her,” Luke clutched Trevor’s outstretched hand. “For today. Don’t force her.”
Trevor looked up, and their gazes met. “You’re the one who hid her? You’re getting back at me, aren’t you?”
“I’ll send her home first.” Luke grabbed one of Camille’s hands and sensed her fear.

“You can’t.” Trevor tugged hard at one of Camille’s hands and said to her, “If someone should send her home… It should be me.”
She tried hard to break free from his hand. It felt as if her hand was burning. “Let go of me… I want to go home…”
One by one, her fingers broke free from his large hand.
Cowering and retreating behind Luke, she said, “Send me home. I want to go home…”
Treyor watched her leave in a daze. He stepped forward, but he was afraid of hurting her. He looked at Luke. His eyes were bloodshot, as if there was a fire burning within.
Luke looked back at Trevor. Trevor, whom he thought he knew so well, was not like this.
The atmosphere in the car was a little heavy.
Luke steadied the steering wheel, and the car drove smoothly down the busy road.
He glanced at Camille. Her dark eyes were staring out the car window, and the redness around her eyes was frightening.
“Thank you for today.” It took a long time before she said that.
The corners of Luke’s mouth lifted slightly. “I didn’t do anything for you.”
She lowered her head and forced a smile. “I’m sorry… I’ll let Ms. Jones deduct my pay for the day.”
After saying that, she felt like crap. Her heart and mind went blank. She did not know what to say at a time like this.
She heard Luke’s deep voice. “Did I mind? Did I blame you? Why don’t you give me your salary, then?”
Camille bowed her head and did not say anything.
Luke continued to drive. After driving a few more blocks, he said. “Trevor misunderstood me.”
Camille looked at him and asked, “Misunderstood… About us?”
“Yes, and no,” Luke frowned slightly.
“I’m sorry…” She did not know what to say except that she was sorry. She never knew what to say.
Luke frowned. “How are you related? When did you meet each other?”

Chapter 30
As far as he knew, Trevor had not returned to the country in the past few years. It must have been many years ago. That would have been a long, long time ago.
“We met in high school,” Camille said.
Luke frowned deeply. Had they known each other for that long?
Camille’s eyes looked out the car window again. She did not know how to answer the other question he asked.
She did not say much, and he did not probe, either.
When they arrived at Camille’s house, she politely nodded to Luke and left the car. She looked so heart–wrenching.

Luke looked at the upscale residential area in front of her. He wondered if she could live in such a place with her economic
status.
There was no one home. It was dark, and she did not turn on the lights. She took off her shoes and poured a glass of water. She lay down on the bed.
Luke’s phone had been ringing since he drove Camille home. Because it was set to vibrate, Camille did not notice that Luke did not want to pick up the call.
Without looking, he knew it was Sarah. She was looking for him.
The car pulled into Leicester Hotel, and he drove into the basement parking lot. A punch landed heavily on his jaw as soon as his figure stepped out of the parking lot.
Trevor’s bloodshot eyes had not faded. He clenched his fists so hard that his fingers cracked. He stared at Luke.
Trevor gritted his teeth and forced the words out. “I don’t care what your previous relationship was. You’d better separate. You must separate immediately!”
Luke licked the corner of his mouth and was just about to open his mouth when he saw Sarah coming. She looked anxious. Luke’s face was as cold as frost. “Before saying these things to me, think about your situation and figure yourself out first.”
After saying that, he left.
Sarah came to Trevor’s side. She saw Luke leave. She held Trevor’s arm, asking, “Isn’t that Luke? He was Aunt Helen has been looking for him everywhere. She was so anxious.”
She carefully looked at Trevor’s face. Her hand, wrapped around his arm, tightened even more.
with you, after all.
Sarah and Trevor walked inside the hotel. She asked tentatively. Trevor, what did you say to Luke just now? I noticed that you both looked unhappy.”
Trevor paused. “We talked about how long I’ll stay in the country this time.”
“I see…” Sarah was not entirely convinced.
They walked inside the hotel together.
Helen was relieved to see Luke appear.
Natalie had been standing at a distance, looking at the mother and son. A sweet smile suddenly flashed across her face. She clutched her pink purse and approached them, standing next to Helen. She looked at the handsome Luke and asked in a whisper, “Mrs. Walter, this must be…”
