Chapter 10
Since Conrad found out Lucas was dead, he began pursuing me obsessively.
Every morning, he would give me different flowers and sketches of how he saw me that day.
He often told me I was his muse, that seeing me filled him with endless inspiration.
His sweet words were endless, but I never agreed to be with him–until the day my mom found me.
“Daphne! You leave a mess behind and run off to another country–have you thought about the family’s
reputation?”
As a high–society socialite, my mother, Ophelia, expected me to be the perfect fiancée.
But I had secretly broken up with Lucas, causing embarrassment to the family.
“Do you know how I look in front of the other ladies?” Ophelia grabbed my arm. “You’re coming back to
Manhattan to marry old Mr. Davis‘ grandson!”
“This is the last chance to restore our family’s honor! Don’t be like your sister, always causing trouble!”
Just then, Conrad arrived with a big bouquet of sunflowers.
His sports car crashed into my mother’s car, and he stormed over.
“Hey, you old witch! Let go of my girl! Or I’ll make sure you rot in jail!”
Everyone was stunned.
Ophelia had never been insulted like that, her face turning bright red.
After being pushed aside, she yelled at me, “Is this who you’re with now? Daphne, you’re disappointing
me!”
“Wait.” Conrad glanced between me and Ophelia, then calmly introduced himself. “I’m Sidney Conrad Ewing, from the Ewing family.”
Ophelia paused, then extended her hand. “The Ewing family?”
Her eyes lit up. “Very handsome. Are you dating my daughter?”
I awkwardly tugged at Ophelia. “Mom…”

Wot ver, Auntie Fin still pursuing Daphne.”
Ophelia gave me a meaningful look. “Good luck, young man. It looks like my daughter’s already interested”
After that my mom left, giving me a pointed look–don’t make the Ewing heir wait too long.
I felt trapped, realising I had no choice but to accept Conrad’s pursuit.
Thankfully, Conrad and I got along well.
We shared common interests and art views. On the surface, we were a perfect match.
So, not long after my mom left, I agreed to be with Conrad.
That day, he showed me around Paris.
We kissed under the Eiffel Tower, debated art at the Louvre, and shared a sweet dinner on a Seine River
boat.
Conrad was like a romantic madman, taking me on adventures by day and turning inspiration into
paintings by night.
The days felt like heaven.
When my mom suggested I give up painting and become an art curator for Conrad, I happily agreed.
We returned to Manhattan, and with the Ewing family’s help and my artistic background, I quickly
turned Conrad into a “genius artist,”
Success came to Conrad, but what he loved most was kissing my hand at night, thanking me for my
support.
My parents were pleased, praising my judgment in leaving Lucas for a better match.
But I saw Conrad’s inspiration drying up, fearing the glamour would soon collapse.
Luckily, I managed to handle every crisis, and Conrad became a more mature artist.
I put all my energy into managing his art exhibitions, helping him maintain success for five years.
Tonight is his most important exhibition–the unveiling of his masterpiece.
He also mentions that he will propose tonight.
I plan the exhibition, nervously awaiting the proposal, until the canvas is revealed, showing a woman

with a freckle on her left breast.
I always think that woman in the painting is me. But I don’t have a freckle there.
I watch in shock as Conrad walks toward me with a woman who has a freckle.
He calmly says, “Daphne, you must’ve received my breakup message eight hours ago.”
“What?” I check my phone and see his breakup message.
I look up, confused. “Why?”
He looks at me with disappointment. “You no longer inspire me. You’ve become… too commercial.”
Fuck it
Who did I become like this for?
Why does he think he can just toss me aside once he’s done with me?
Does he really think his art will become a hit without any marketing?
My eyes well up with tears, thinking of my mom’s angry face, I try to salvage the situation. “If I…”
“Oh, stop,” the freckled woman caresses Conrad’s shoulder. “A new muse has appeared. You should leave.Don’t keep pestering like a clown.”
Conrad looks at me coldly.
I close my eyes, take a deep breath, and step aside for them.
I don’t know how long I stand there, lost in thought, until I hear Conrad’s voice calling out to Brittany.
“Brittany, baby… You’re my muse. Please keep shining for me.”
He has said those words to me, but now they are so easily spoken to someone else.
Then, to my shock, Conrad kneels down in front of Brittany.
“Will you marry me?”
The room erupts in cheers.
Conrad places the huge diamond ring on Brittany’s finger.
It is the same ring I picked out months ago, thinking it was for me.

Chapter 10
I can’t stay any longer. The blows keep coming, making me feel cold inside.
I turn and walk toward the bar.
“One full bottle of absinthe. Thank you.”
I walk through the crowd with the bottle, heading for the exit.
The bottle is heavy, but my heart feels even heavier.
The bartender calls after me, but I explain, “It’s the worst day of my life. Don’t worry about me.”
As I turn, I bump into a man’s chest, spilling my absinthe on his shirt.
“Oh my God, I’m so sorry! Are you okay?”
The man looks down at me. “I’m doing better than you.”
I stop and look up at him.
Is he mocking me?
A smile tugs at the corner of his lips.
“NeNe! Where are you?”
I freeze.
When he looks at me again, I do something completely out of place.
I say, “Help me.”
And then, in an unexpected turn, he cups my face in his hands and kisses me, just like he would kiss the
woman he loves.
