Chapter 2
“Your boyfriend? You didn’t even hesitate for a second before you left him eight years ago!” Lilith suddenly showed up and gave me a soothing pat, yelling at Lola.
Then, she turned to Antonio, “And you ingrate! Grace has supported you for eight years. If it weren’t for her, you’d still be a loser. Now that you’ve become successful, you think you can abandon her? It’s not gonna be that easy!”
Antonio ignored her, his cold eyes fixed on me. “Keep your friend in line. I never promised you anything. These eight years were nothing but your one–sided devotion…”
My face turned pale, and my heart fell apart.
He had never promised me anything or admitted we were in a romantic relationship.
But we had lived together, kissed, hugged, and had sex.
So what did all that mean to him? I once thought that actions spoke louder than words and never demanded any promises from him.
Now, it became his justification to dismiss me.
“Dammit, you scum! How could you say this after everything Grace has sacrificed for you?” Lilith rushed forward and slapped Antonio hard across the face.
He didn’t resist, and the slap sent a sharp tremor through my heart.

Chapter 2
Lilith was about to strike again, but Antonio had already clenched his fists.
I quickly pulled Lilith back, shielding her behind me. Antonio was a champion boxer. Lilith couldn’t handle his punches.
Lilith seemed to have realized this and became nervous, still, she stared at Antonio with defiance.
but
Antonio’s gaze was locked on me, his expression growing colder. After a long pause, he spoke in a cold voice, “Are you satisfied now?”
“Antonio, are you okay? Ms. Parrish, how could you let your friend slap him?” With tears in her eyes, Lola gently cupped Antonio’s cheeks, and he made no move to evade her.
He even lowered his head as if to make it easier for her to reach. It was something I had never experienced.
I forced myself to look away and pulled Lilith out of the venue.
I ran away, though I wasn’t the one in the wrong…
“Grace, why are you running? He’s the one who…” Lilith stopped abruptly as she saw my tears start falling.
“Don’t cry,” Lilith’s voice choked up. She was my best friend, and she had witnessed everything I had done for Antonio.
She knew how much I had suffered. Nobody knew me better than she did.
In the past years, I had worked multiple jobs at the same time while helping Antonio pull himself together and become the champion boxer he used to be again.

I’d been so excited when I saw Antonio win, picturing our future together.
I instinctively touched my belly, and the pain in my heart grew sharper. I hadn’t told him yet, but I was pregnant.
I had imagined us becoming a family of three, but it turned out to be just a fantasy. He had never wanted to be with me.
Everything I had done over the years was just a joke.
“Grace, what are you going to do now?” Lilith pulled me back to reality, looking at my belly with deep concern.
“I don’t know.”
Lilith sighed.
After a long silence, we said goodbye to each other.
I returned to the home where Antonio and I had lived for eight years, a place full of our memories.
Everything still looked the same, but things between us had changed.
I curled up on the couch, tears falling again. Eventually, I drifted into sleep.
