Chapter 3
I was woken up by the sound of a door opening. When I opened my eyes, I saw Antonio.
“Antonio, you’re back…” Groggy, I forgot about what had happened in the morning for a moment and instinctively moved toward him like I used to.
But before I could reach Antonio, a hand pushed me away. Lola’s face came into sight, snapping me out of my grogginess.
The events of earlier flooded my mind, and my brain went blank.
“Ms. Parrish, don’t you think it’s inappropriate to throw yourself at someone else’s boyfriend?” Lola smiled, linking her arm with Antonio’s.
Antonio’s gentle gaze was fixed on Lola.
I steadied myself, my eyes burning with unshed tears.
“What are you here for?”
Antonio had made it clear that there was nothing between us, so why was he back? Was he here to mock me?
“We’re here to take Antonio’s things. He can’t live in this little rundown apartment anymore.” Lola’s words were like a slap in my ear.
Indeed, it was a small, rundown apartment, but I had lived

here with Antonio for eight years.
Now, all I could do was watch them take away all his belongings.
“Oops, sorry, Ms. Parrish, I didn’t mean to.”

Lola dropped one of our photos and apologized, but I could see disdain on her face.
“It’s fine. It’s just a photo. It has to be dealt with anyway,” Antonio said, glancing at the frame with indifference.
My hands, hanging by my sides, trembled, and I felt like I was on the brink of breaking down.
He sounded like our eight years meant nothing to him.
But I wouldn’t accept it. I wouldn’t let my eight years be erased just like that. I looked at him and slowly spoke, “Antonio, I’m pregnant…”
I wanted to know if he could really be this heartless.
At my words, Antonio immediately turned to stare at my belly, his eyes flashing with a complex mix of emotions.
Seeing his reaction, Lola hurriedly tugged at his sleeve. He snapped back to reality, and cruel words came out of his mouth.
“Are you trying to say it is mine? Grace, you were out there all the time. Who knows who the father is? I’m not gonna raise someone else’s baby.”
Those mocking words shattered the last bit of composure I had left.

“Antonio, is this how you see me?” I stared at him.
incredulously. My tears rushed down despite my efforts to hold them back.
“This is 2 million. Consider it payment for taking care of me these years.” Antonio suddenly pulled a card from his pocket, a hint of guilt on his face.
Lola tried to stop him but then withdrew her hand. Instead, she stared at me. “Ms. Parrish, take it. Thank you for looking after Antonio all these years.”
I could see from her face that she didn’t want me to take it. 2 million was half of Antonio’s prize money from winning the match. Of course Lola wouldn’t want me to have it.
So, just to upset her, I took the card, wiping away the tears from the corner of my eyes.
Lola’s face immediately darkened, but she couldn’t do anything.
When Antonio looked down at her, she quickly forced a smile.
I watched that and smiled, “Well, thank you. Now, get the hell out of my apartment!”
I wasn’t a woman with no dignity. Since Antonio didn’t want the baby, I wouldn’t force him.
I’d just pretend like I had raised a dog that could make
