Chapter 4
“Grace, you…”
Antonio seemed surprised by my cold expression. He tried to say something, but I interrupted him.
“Get lost. This is my apartment.”
I pushed them out the door, throwing Antonio’s things outside with them.
Soon, the door was knocked on again, and I opened it. Antonio looked at the wooden boat on the shelf behind me, frowning. “Give that to me.”
“Antonio, wasn’t that the boat your father taught me to make when you took me to visit him?” said Lola, her voice laced with smugness.
I looked back. The wooden boat was placed in the most prominent spot because it was Antonio’s most cherished possession. I cleaned it carefully every day.
I remembered when I accidentally dropped that boat once, Antonio got so angry with me.
But now, Lola told me it was made by her. She had abandoned Antonio, but he had always kept her in his heart.
Antonio had never taken me to meet his father, only asking me to send his father money. I guess he had never intended for us to have a future together.

I was such a fool to sacrifice so much for him.

I took the wooden boat down. In front of their shocked eyes, I shattered it into pieces, along with the sad reality of my years of sacrifice.
“Grace, you!” Antonio was furious, but why should I care?
I ignored his anger, yanked his key from the door, and slammed it shut.
Antonio pounded on the door, which creaked with each hit. After a long while of no response, the knocking stopped.
Finally, I looked away and walked into the bathroom.
I stared at the haggard woman in the mirror, involuntarily touching my face, overwhelmed by endless sadness.
Antonio had a sensitive stomach and needed expensive food. In addition, he was allergic to cheap fabric.
I had to work multiple jobs, just to give him a better life. In the meantime, I had neglected myself.
To save money, I still wore clothes from years ago that had faded from washing, and I didn’t buy any skincare products.
I wasn’t always like this. I used to shine brightly.
Suddenly, I buried my face in the sink, forcing myself to put the past behind me.
I thought, “Grace, it’s time to love yourself.
“Antonio is heartless. No matter how much you do for him, you can never replace Lola’s place in his heart.

“If he doesn’t love you, he will never love you no matter what you do. It will be foolish to keep trying.”
After washing my face, I walked out of the bathroom and cleaned up the mess on the floor.
When I saw the shattered photo frame, I threw it into the trash without hesitation.
Antonio was right. It needed to be dealt with.
Just as I finished cleaning up, I got a call from Lilith.
“Grace, are you okay?” she asked cautiously.
“I could never be better. The dog I’d raised for eight years gave me 2 million. I’ll never make this much money in my life,” I joked with a smile, suppressing the little bit of heartache I felt.
“What? Grace, you’re rich now! That jerk finally did something good. 2 million for a breakup! I’m jealous!” Her cheerful voice reached my ears. I couldn’t help but laugh along with her.
