Chapter 13
When Grace was with Antonio, even during the best times, he’d take ages to reply to her texts. She’d be left waiting anxiously.
Now, with Lewis making her feel so special, Grace felt like she was on cloud nine.
But it scared her. She worried she’d go through the same heartbreak again.
Taking a deep breath, she put her phone aside and focused on her pastry studies.
Making pastries was like a relationship–every ingredient and proportion mattered, and one small mistake could ruin the whole thing. For pastry lovers, even a tiny change could be upsetting.
Grace threw herself into her work, not noticing the flood of messages on her phone.
Lewis waited and became so worried that he flew to Flueca overnight.
Thankfully, Theo stayed in touch with Grace and knew where she was staying.
When Lewis knocked on her door, she had just gotten back to
her room.
She opened the door to find Lewis looking worried. When he saw her, he let out a sigh of relief.

Overwhelmed, he pulled Grace into a tight hug. “I couldn’t reach you. I was freaking out.”
She was puzzled. They had just talked in the morning.
She was used to her relationship with Antonio, where they could go days without speaking.
Now Grace realized that missing someone could feel like forever.
When she remembered Theo’s words, she asked, “Is it okay for you to just come here?”
“No big deal.” Lewis shrugged. “If the company tanks, I’ll just start another one.”
He paused and added, “But if my future wife runs off, it’s a big deal.”
He took Grace’s phone, set himself as a priority contact, and noticed a bunch of messages and calls from Antonio.
Lewis’s face darkened, but he kept it cool like always. “You’ve got a ton of messages to check.”
Grace took her phone back and read them.
Antonio: “Where are you? Why aren’t you at work? You took leave without my permission!”
Antonio: “Why aren’t you at home? It’s ridiculous for you to be out, not coming back.”
It was all angry accusations. Grace could almost see Antonio’s furious face in her mind.

Grace was stunned. She recalled the day they broke up and how she had made her point crystal clear. Why was Antonio getting all emotional now?
Her phone started buzzing–it was Antonio calling.
Grace didn’t feel like answering. Lewis grabbed her phone, yanked out the SIM card, and tossed it in the trash.
“You’ve given him enough chances. Don’t get sucked back in.” He handed her a bank card. “I trashed your SIM, so here’s compensation.” He paused to think and smiled, “And I forgot to pay you.”
He made a convincing case, and Grace had no choice but to take his card.
Meanwhile, Janelle accidentally knocked into a cabinet, causing severe abdominal pain. Antonio rushed her to the hospital.
After examining her, the doctor looked at them with surprise, his voice slightly reproachful. “You’re pregnant. How could you be so careless?”
“Pregnant?” they both exclaimed.
Janelle’s face was a mix of emotions. She found an excuse to send Antonio out before asking the doctor, “How far along am I?”
“You should pay more attention.” The doctor, used to seeing young women secretly having kids for wealthy men, replied disdainfully, “Looks like almost four months.”
