Chapter 19
After Grace was discharged from the hospital, she returned home with Lewis.
Lewis wouldn’t let her live alone and insisted that she stay in his home.
“Um, it’s awkward.” Grace blushed. Even her ears turned red.
Lewis decided to tease her. He remained quiet for a while. She was so adorable. The pleading look in Grace’s eyes made him give up.
“Relax. I live alone. My parents live in the old house.”
Grace was relieved. Then, something seemed to occur to her. She added, “If I stay with you, aren’t you afraid the paparazzi will come and snap photos?”
Antonio only snuck in and out of her place at midnight, in case the reporters saw him. He said gossip was bad for the company’s image.
The Morton family was much more powerful than the Kaufman family. Grace figured the gossip would bother Lewis
more.
“I’m not,” Lewis replied bluntly. Grace frowned, confused. He added, “I’m not a teenager anymore. Isn’t it normal for me to have a girlfriend? Several years ago, the paparazzi even called me gay.”
Earlier, Grace was moved. Now, she couldn’t help bursting out

“Why didn’t you start a relationship?” Grace surveyed him and said thoughtfully, “Is there a particular reason?”
It was a joke. After all, Lewis joked about her all the time.
However, Lewis answered seriously, “I don’t know. Why don’t you and I give it a try?”
Nervous, Grace ran to her room quickly.
Lewis was busy. When Grace was alone at home, he was always worried. He transferred the houseworker Edith Gibson from the old house to take care of her. Also, he installed many cameras in the house so that he could know Grace’s
whereabouts anytime.
“Am I a prisoner?” Grace pouted, pretending to be mad.
“I’m only worried. Edith may be too busy to keep an eye on you. What if you faint?”
Before long, thanks to Lewis’s good care, Grace gained some weight with a much better countenance. Even Edith couldn’t help saying, “Ms. Parrish, you’re stunning.”
Grace waved her hand with embarrassment. But when she passed the mirror, she peered at herself.
She used to feel inferior. Women always surrounded Antonio. Grace had thought Antonio had kept their relationship secret because she couldn’t compare with the women around him.
She came from a powerless family and was homely. Naturally, Lady Luck wouldn’t be on her side.

In her morbid relationship with Antonio, she was exhausted. Due to anxiety, she lost a lot of weight and became skinny.
After meeting Lewis, she finally believed love was the best nutrient.
She touched her face with satisfaction. Beauty had many standards. Who said it only meant a perfect figure and traditional features?
Monolid eyes were also lovely.
Looking in the mirror, she smiled mischievously. Only then did she realize she had indeed changed.
In order for her to have a pastime, Lewis turned part of his study into her dessert workshop.
When Grace passed by his study, she found out by chance that they went to the same high school.
The photo of the graduates on the wall brought her back to the old times.
In senior year, a chubby boy had chased her, but she rejected him, saying she wanted to stay focused on her studies.
Afterward, Antonio became the only focus in Grace’s world, and she had forgotten this episode.
The other day Grace asked Lewis why he stayed single these years. He smiled but didn’t answer. Looking at the chubby Lewis in the photo, she suddenly understood why.
Was it because he was still in love with her?
Was she being narcissistic?

Lewis walked into the study and saw the photo in Grace’s hand. A trace of embarrassment flitted across his face.

“You hung your embarrassing past on the wall yourself. I wasn’t prying into your privacy.” Grace thought he got mad. She put the photo in his hand and intended to run away.
But Lewis caught her in his arms.
He buried his head on Grace’s shoulder and finally unleashed his feelings for her. “It’s not my embarrassing past but the beginning of my pursuit for you.
“It was love at first sight. In high school, I didn’t stand out and gained weight after getting sick. I secretly admired you for three years. In senior year, I finally mustered the courage to declare my feelings for you. Your rejection didn’t surprise me. I began focusing on my studies and exercising. When we met again, I hoped I’d deserve you.”
“Deserve me?” Grace murmured. A stream of warmth rose in her heart. She was just a Cinderella. She already felt lucky to meet her prince. To her surprise, the prince even thought he wasn’t good enough for her.
Grace had never been so treasured. And now, against all odds, she was embracing happiness.
Was it fate?
“Let’s get married.”
“What?” Grace couldn’t believe her ears. He was proposing to
her!

Lewis smiled enchantingly, “That’s my mom. She’s the head of the Morton Group.”
Grace gaped. “You’ve told your family already? I’m not prepared.” She began drawing loops on her pants with her finger. She was obviously nervous.
“Edith has been working for my mom for a long time. Without her consent, Edith wouldn’t have agreed to work here.
“Relax. I’ll be there for you.”
