Chapter 3
Chapter 3
A few days later, Ronan showed up at my door with a bouquet of roses.
He flashed me a charming smile.
“Eve, having such a forgiving wife like you is the luckiest thing that’s ever happened to me.”
Forgiving?
That’s what he called it.
time he had to choose between Arden and me, he always picked her no hesitation.
Then he’d toss me some meaningless apology, like it would make up for everything.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a jewelry box.
Inside was a sapphire necklace,
Before I could say a word, Arden strutted in, holding a crumpled Amazon packaging slip like it was a badge of honor.
“Ronan, you left this in the box,” she said sweetly, her tone laced with mock concern.
That’s when I noticed the necklace.
The exact same one glinted around her neck, pristine and polished, like it belonged in a luxury display case.
Mine?
Tarnished and dull, screaming mass produced knockoff.
I snapped.
Grabbing the box from Ronan, I threw it at her.
Mya
aim was off–it hit her face instead, leaving her eye swollen and red.
“Ifvangeline, what’s wrong with you?”
Ronan yelled, stepping between us.
“Do you have to make everything so dramatic?”
“Dramatic?”
I spat.
“You don’t think this is about her?”
He ignored me and turned to Arden, his voice soft.
“She didn’t mean it. And you’ve been up all night for days trying to find the perfect necklace for her. I’m sorry this happened.”
Arden dabbed at her eye, tears streaming down her cheeks.
“I didn’t think Evangeline hated me this much,” she whimpered.
I opened my mouth to defend myself, but Ronan cut me off coldly.
“You need to take a long, hard look at yourself,” he said, his eyes steely.
“I don’t want my child growing up with a mother who’s so… unhinged.”

A message followed, a long post from Arden, capped with a plan of Roman learing into her arms the night before our wedding.
That was the moment I realized I was never more than a placatulder in Rosati’s heart.

In the days that followed, Ronan stayed away.

I bought every item carefully, lovingly–determined not to leave anything undone.
The nursery, once barren, was now filled with mementos and keepsakes.
For the first time in weeks, it looked alive again.
But the sight didn’t bring me peace,
When Ronan came home one night and saw the smoke in the nursery, he lost it.
“Lyangeline!” he shouted, rushing to put out the small fire in the ceremonial brazier.

“What the hell is wrong with you? Have you completely lost your mind?”
1 sat there calmly, watching him.
“Why are you cursing Arden’s child?” he demanded.
Arden walked in right on cue, dabbing at her eyes with a tissue.
“I had no idea, Ronan,” she sobbed.
“Eve’s been buying funeral items for a baby. If my friend hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have known.”
Her voice broke as she added, “And now Lily’s been sick all the time. They said it might be… you know… a curse.”
Ronan’s face darkened.
In his fury, he slapped me.
“Why are you doing this?” he barked.
“Are you seriously cursing our baby before they’re even born?”
I held my cheek, the sting of his words sharper than the slap.
“Apologize to Arden!” he ordered.

The next day. I scheduled the termination.
And just like that. I started planning Aurora’s funeral, scheduled for the same time and place as Arden’s baby shower.
the day of the procedure came, Konan didn’t call. Not once.
Bur has social media and me everything I needed to know–pictures of him cradling Arden’s child, changing diapers, feeding her.
All the things he promised he’d do for me.
Except now, the promises weren’t for me.
They were for her.
I sent him one last text
“Don’t forget to attend the funeral tomorrow.”
Goodbye, Roma
Tomorrow will be the last time we ever meet
