Chapter 9
Chapter 9
I thought cutting ties with Ronan would mean never crossing paths with him again.
But I never expected that the house he once promised to Arden’s child would come back to haunt me
When the lawyer found me, I was completely blindsided, barely piecing together the words he said.
Then, Arden walked into the cafe, holding her baby.
“Ronan’s in the hospital,” she began, her voice sharp and filled with bitterness,
child is his only legal heir, which means he’s entitled to everything. Including your share, Eye,”
Her eyes gleamed with greed, but the baby in her arms looked pale and sickly, its tiny face drained of color.
The lawyer handed me a DNA report.
It confirmed that Arden’s child, Lily, was Ronan’s biological child,
Suddenly, every argument Ronan and I ever had about Lily flashed through my mind.
All those times he’d gone out of his way for her, even fighting with me,
So it was true.
Lily really was his child.
I looked down, letting out a bitter laugh.
I had given up so much for him–my career, my family, my dreams.
I had built him up, sacrificed myself to support him.
And now, Arden was here to claim everything that was left.
But not without a fight.
Slapping out of my daze, I scrawled the word “declined” across the contract and pushed it back toward the lawyer.
“These are marital assets,” I said coldly. “Without my consent, you won’t get a single penny.”
I stood to leave, but Arden stepped in front of me, blocking my path.
“If you don’t give up the inheritance,” she shouted, “you’re not leaving this place!”
I brushed past her, but she lunged forward, slamming into me.
My elbow accidentally hit the baby, who let out a piercing wail.
All eyes in the café turned to us.
Whispers grew louder, and fingers pointed in my direction.
“Refusing the money is one thing,” someone muttered. “But hurting a baby? That’s just cruel.”
Arden seized the moment, her voice breaking as she cried, “It’s not her fault, don’t blame her! I’m fine!”
Then, as if to drive the knife deeper, she stumbled into a table, hitting her head against the edge. Blood trickled down her forehead, smearing across her face as she sobbed.
“You’re not leaving until I get what’s mine!” she wailed.
The baby’s cries, the murmurs of the crowd, and Arden’s exaggerated tears overwhelmed me.

That’s when Ronan appeared, pale and weak, leaning against the door frame.
“I can prove it.” he said, his voice raspy but firm. “The baby isn’t mine.”
