“Today, we took him to meet the mastermind, but we didn’t see him. Instead, he was chased and killed on the spot. James and I are currently waiting at the hospital for the killer to wake up,” Michael explained.
Chloe struggled to process all the information in that sentence.
After a while, she spoke, “So you mean… he was chased by a stranger and killed?”
“Yes, that’s the situation for now. We can only gather more information once the killer wakes up,” Michael replied.
Chloe said, “I see. Come back early after you finish dealing with it.”
Hearing that Chloe had no intention of going there and wasn’t angry at him, Michael felt a twinge of guilt. “I’m sorry, Chloe.”
Surprised by his apology, Chloe reassured him, “You didn’t kill him. Why are you apologizing?”
“While I didn’t kill him, I promised you that I would bring him to justice and make sure he spent the rest of his life in prison. I failed to uphold that promise,” Michael confessed.
