Chapter 5
Lucian’s POV
“You are going to glare at that janitor to death. She is not the cause of your problems“.
“I turn my full glare on Rowan, who just pranced into my office like he owned the place.
“What’s eating you up? The honeymoon blues finally over so soon?“, Rowan said with a smirk.
“Fuck off, Rowan. Today’s not the day for your jokes. Everything that can go wrong is going wrong
today.”
“Well I am about to make your day even worse. There are sightings of illegals in the city. Seems we have a spy and that person is letting in enemy packs. Our security is compromised.”
My head pounds more than ever. I rub my temples in anguish.
“Safety of the pack is paramount. Do whatever it takes to ensure that. I expect daily reports on this matter. Every illegal found in or around the city, must be brought in for interrogation. We need to find this spy and plug the leak“, I growl with rising irritation.
The phone ringing interrupts our conversation. Even without looking at it, I know it’s Lyanna.
“Aren’t you gonna take the call? It could be important“, Rowan said with a strange look in his eyes.
I fire a searing look at him. His head sure looks juicy to bite off.
“Hey! Don’t bite my head off just yet. Maybe after we’ve rooted out the spy, you could fulfil your
mind’s desire“, Rowan laughed.
The intercom buzzed and Edna’s voice filled the room.
“Alpha Lucian, Luna is here. I am buzzing her right in.”
I groan inwardly. It’s been a week since we got married and it feels like a century. All she does is tail me wherever I go and complain about my staff and friends. I can’t remember her being this way when we were younger. She was just…different.
“I gotta go. I won’t be in the way of the new lovebirds. I’ll see you later with updates on the security
matter“, Rowan said as he walks to the door.

Wait! Do you have any idea where Olivia is? She hasn’t been to the apartment in a week and her phone is switched off. I am starting to get worried“.
Rowan looks at me with a raised eyebrow.
“Why? She isn’t yours to worry about. You made that clear when you chose Lyanna“, he said with a steady voice.
I knew right then he knew something about Liv’s disappearance. Before I could retort, Lyanna walks in, her elegant gait at par with her beautiful face.
“Hey Baby! I missed you. I was going crazy without you.”
he wrapped herself around me. I sensed rather than heard Rowan leave the room.
“Lyanna, it’s been only three hours since I left for work. You do realise I have to work, right? I have a business to run and I have a pack to manage. I can’t do all that being at your beck and call all the
time.”
Her lips quiver like she is about to cry.
“Lucian, I am sorry for being a burden. It’s just that it gets so lonely at the mansion without you. I feel like everyone resents me. Maybe Olivia poisoned their minds against me.”
Her words irritates me.
“Stop saying that. How could she have done that if she wasn’t even aware of my plans to marry your and make you Luna?“, I snap at her.
Her eyes brim with tears.
“Now you are supporting her. You think I didn’t hear your last discussion with Rowan? You resep me so much and you miss her more. I see it in your eyes every time you look at me. It’s all my fault for demanding for a last dying wish.
“Maybe I should have let you die that day, instead of placing you in my debt.”
Her words bring back flashbacks of that day. I can still smell the blood and the smoke from burning
houses and flesh.
“I am sorry, Lyanna. You are not the problem. I have a lot I am dealing with right now. I shouldn’t have transferred aggression on you.
Stop thinking about Olivia. My business with her doesn’t concern us. For all I know, she could be

ong gone and far away from us and our world.”
yanna looks at me with a strange light in her clear blue eyes. Her lips turn up in a secret smile.
“No, Lucian. Fate isn’t done with Olivia yet. It chooses its victims well. You should know better. As
predators, we choose, hunt and take down our prey.
“Come,Lucian. Let’s go have lunch.”
What the hell does that mean? Did she just refer to Olivia as prey? An uneasy feeling comes over me,
and I feel the urgent need to find Liv and protect her.
Where the hell are you, Liv?
I watch Lyanna talk animatedly while digging into her food. She seems really excited today.
“Lyanna, when is your next doctor’s appointment? You’ve not gone in for your medicals this week. I thought you said you had to go in three times a week“.
Her eyes shifts. I sense something in her but I can’t place it.
“Baby, I didn’t see the need to go in this week. The medicines makes my nausea worse and I feel
better than usual, so why spoil it? Would you prefer I die immediately so you could go be with your
precious Olivia?“, she spat out.
I am stunned. Why is there a bite to her words whenever she mentions Olivia?
“Lyanna, you came to me and pleaded to experience that feeling of marriage just before you die. I know I owe you that much. Olivia has nothing to do with our agreement, so why the angst?”
She’s suddenly all sweet and all smiles again.
“Baby, I am so sorry. I got jealous for a bit. I know I am going to die soon and I wished I had
someone to love me genuinely as you love Olivia. Please forgive my outburst.”
I let go of my irritation and rub her hands across the table.
“As long as I live, you have nothing to worry about, Lyanna. I never go back on my word“.
I send a text to Rowan immediately.
Meet me at the office in an hour.

What’s up? Your message sounded urgent. Any leads on the spy?“, Rowan asks, as he settles his long rame into the long couch by the window.
“Forget that for now. I need you to get me everything you can on Lyanna. Something is definitely off
about her.”
“So, you’ve finally noticed?“, Rowan murmurs.
“My head shoots up.
“What the fuck do you mean? What do you know? Out with it, Rowan.”
“Nothing definite yet but she isn’t what she claims to be. We don’t know where she went after what
Happened, and who she’s been associating with in all that time. You never told me you were going to wed her, so I didn’t have te chance to warn you.”
“Shit! Rowan, I have the gut feeling that something is wrong. She told me she was very sick and could hardly walk sometimes. It’s been a week and she is as energetic as a toddler. She keeps making cryptic comments about Olivia and it’s strange because why would a dying person concern
herself with the future?
“Get on it immediately. I want every single detail, right down to every meal she took in the years since she left the pack.”
Rowan sighs. Something about his sigh raises my antennae.
“Lucian, do you know you are being followed? Infact you’ve been followed for a while now. You were followed this afternoon while having lunch with her. We’ve been having illegals infiltrating our security. All these began when she came into town.
“I don’t know how to say this but I am starting to believe Lyanna might just be our spy.”
