Emily’s parents intended to take her
ashes for burial, but Karry took it before.
they could. They tried to take it back, but he refused to compromise, each
confrontation ending with his chilling declaration, “You’ll only get the urn over my dead body.”
Karry moved out of Emily’s house.
While packing, he discovered that
everything connected to their memories.
was gone. Remembering her strange behavior in those final days, even though the police ruled her death accidental, he stubbornly believed it was premeditated. That was why she’d rejected having sex with him and tried to push him towards
Celia.

In the bedroom, Karry cradled the
urn, surrounded by fallen liquor bottles.
His eyes were filled with sorrow, regret,
and self—reproach. It had been so
obvious that Emily was leaving him, yet
he’d been blind.
Another shot of liquor burned its
way down his throat. He traced the urn’s
pattern, closing his eyes. Emily’s smiling
face appeared before him.
“Emily…”
While Karry was lost in his grief, the
bedroom door burst open. Bright light
flooded the room, causing him to squint.
Seeing him, the woman who entered froze.
She rushed to him, attempting to take the
urn and help him up.

“Karry!”
The voice jolted him back to reality.
He instinctively recoiled, shielding the
urn. The caution in his eyes pierced Celia‘
s heart, but his haggard face and
bloodshot eyes made her voice soft.
“Karry, you’ll hurt yourself. Put the
urn down. I’ll take you to the hospital.”
His eyes flickered, finally settling on
her.“You knew it, didn’t you?”
His voice was calm, yet she could tell
he was blaming her. He was accusing her
of telling him earlier that Emily was.
leaving.
Celia’s face paled. She looked
wronged, feigning innocence.“Karry, I

didn’t know anything. Emily came to me,
saying she wanted to work with me…”
“Work with you? On what?” Karry
sensed something and his gaze turned
sharp and cold.
Celia had never seen him like this.
Her grip on his hand loosened. Under his
intense stare, she confessed everything.
Even at the end, she pleaded for
forgiveness.“Karry, I only did it because I
love you so much. And I didn’t do
anything to frame her again. She forced
you to be her boyfriend, I know you don’t
love her. Now she’s gone, you’re free.
Shouldn’t you be happy?”
No sooner had her words fallen than
his hand clasped tightly around her neck.

“Who told you I didn’t love her?”
Terrified, her eyes reddened, and
tears instantly filled her eyes. Then, tears streamed down her face, falling onto his
hand. He flinched, pulling his hand away.
After a long silence, he turned away,
hiding the coldness in his eyes.“Go. I don’t
want to see you again.”
He didn’t understand why Celia’s
tears caused him such pain, but he knew
he didn’t love her. If he did, he wouldn’t
have reacted that way.
Karry suddenly thought of how he
had repeatedly ignored Emily or
quarreled with her because of Celia in the
past. In fact, he’d never intended to lash
out at her, but each time, hurtful words

escaped uncontrollably. He couldn’t understand why.
Only after Emily’s death did he
finally see his heart clearly. He
understood his past actions even less.
A sense of surreal absurdity washed
over him.
