My body froze. I could feel my heart
hammering against my ribs. He’d seen my
face, but he didn’t jump to conclusions.
Because of “my” ashes, he was wondering
whether I was Emily Kane or just a look—
alike.
I had to remain calm so that he
wouldn’t suspect me.
After a long pause, I chuckled lightly
without looking at him.“Sir, has anyone.
ever told you your pick–up line is…
outdated?”
“No. I don’t usually do this.”
His reply was immediate, as if he
were eager to prove something. Focused

on getting rid of him, I missed the subtext
and continued to shoo him away.
He conceded. “So, will you
be
open
tomorrow?”
A sigh of relief escaped me when he
backed down. I hesitated. If I told him no, it would be suspicious. But his presence here suggested that he was probably
already suspicious of my identity.
I opted for a compromise.“It depends.
Students are on vacation, and there aren’t
many customers coming here. I might not
keep it open.”
I was trying to make him give up, but
for some reason, my words sounded like
an invitation to him.

“So, you’ll open if there are enough
customers?”
I couldn’t help but look at him. Soon,
I averted my gaze.“Sir, there are plenty of
bars and pubs nearby. You don’t need to
wait for me.”
What had happened in the past six
years? Why had he become so… clingy?
I suppressed my questions. He
remained, waiting for my answer. Only
after a reluctant nod did he leave with a
smile on his face.
I didn’t understand what he was up to. After he was gone, I called my parents.
is it?”
They answered quickly.“Evelyn, what

“Karry found me. Mom, Dad, what
happened these past six years? He’s
changed so much.”
I rubbed my temples, feeling uneasy.
They fell silent before cautiously
asking about my fake–death decision. It
had been six years. After thinking for a while, I decided to tell them everything,
including the novel thing. But I added
that it might just have been a dream of
mine, after all, I left before it could
become a reality.
My parents had always opposed my
relationship with Karry. It wasn’t about
his background. They’d firmly believed he
didn’t love me, that my love for him
would lead to heartache. They couldn’t

bear to watch me suffer.
But I used to be so stubborn that I
refused to give up on him.
Now, their mind had changed.
“Evelyn, we’ve witnessed how he has
spent the past six years. We can tell he
likes you. If it was just a dream, maybe
you should come back.”
My father added, “Yes, Evelyn. And he found you, didn’t he? It’s been six years,
and we all miss you. Come back. We’ll help you through this.”
