Chapter 94
A low, menacing laugh echoed through the clearing, stopping Aurora in her tracks.
“You’re persistent, little Luna,” the Lycan King’s voice rang out, his tone mocking. “But persistence only takes you so far.”
Aurora turned to see him standing at the edge of the clearing, his glowing eyes fixed on her. His presence was magnetic and oppressive, the air around him rippling with dark energy.
Cassian stepped in front of Aurora, his blade raised. “You’ve already lost.”
The Lycan King smirked, his gaze flicking to Aurora. “Have I? Or have you simply fallen into my trap?”
He raised his hand, and the ground beneath the fissure trembled violently. A massive construct of shadow and flame emerged, its claws slashing through the air as it let out a deafening roar.
Aurora’s breath caught as the creature turned its glowing eyes on her, its presence radiating malice.
“Stop the fissure!” Nathan shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos.
Aurora gritted her teeth, the bond’s energy surging within her as she focused on the fissure. The light from her blade clashed with the darkness, the two forces colliding in a violent explosion.
The construct charged, its massive form barreling toward Aurora. Cassian intercepted it, his blade striking against its claws with a force that sent sparks flying.
“Go!” he shouted, his voice strained. “We’ll hold it off!”
Aurora hesitated, her chest tightening as she glanced at Cassian. But the bond’s energy pushed her forward, urging her to act.
She turned back to the fissure, channeling everything she had into her blade. The golden light intensified, cutting through the oppressive energy as the fissure began to collapse.
But as the fissure closed, a surge of dark energy lashed out, striking Aurora and sending her sprawling to the ground.
Cassian was at her side in an instant, his hand steadying her as she struggled to her feet.
“You’re hurt,” he said, his voice tight with worry.
“I’m fine,” Aurora replied, though her body ached and her vision blurred.
The Lycan King’s laughter echoed through the clearing, his smirk widening. “You think this will stop me? You’ve only delayed the inevitable.”
Cassian’s grip on his blade tightened, his golden eyes blazing with fury. “This isn’t over.”
The Lycan King raised his hand, the construct dissolving into mist as he retreated into the shadows. “No, it’s not,” he said, his voice cold. “But next time, I won’t be so generous.”
