Chapter 17 Reddie’s Gravestonel
Raul took an immediate liking to the dog.
“Mom, he’s cute.”
He squatted and touched the photo, his eyes soft.
Ariella also looked at the photo, thinking.
Reddie was different from Leonel.
Reddie was friendly. Since coming home, he acted like a warm boy, caring for her.

When she was sick, he brought her medicine. When she was tired, he fetched packages. If she cried, he held a tissue box and stayed with her.
After Leonel was born, Reddie guarded him.
When Leonel kicked off the blanket, Reddie covered him.
If kids bullied Leonel, Reddie scared them away.
For a while, Leonel, with Reddie, bullied other kids in the villa district.
She thought Reddie would always be around her.
That was why she found Reddie’s car accident hard to accept.
Reddie lay in her arms, bloody.
He licked her palm and looked at the villa.
Finally, Leonel, the little master he had been waiting for, came over.
However, he did not come to comfort Reddie in his final moments.
Instead, he came to tell everyone that the mistake this time was caused by Reddie, not Lailah.
Reddie died with open eyes.
Ariella couldn’t close them.
Then she cried and lost control.
That day, Lailah didn’t fight back.
Perhaps she deliberately refrained from fighting back because she wanted Jovan to see her in a messy and pitiful state.
She wanted to make Leonel, who was unsure, support her.
Then, Lailah succeeded.
But…
Reddie was gone forever!
Ariella hated herself then.
She hated that she couldn’t punish Lailah for Reddie’s death.
She hated that she couldn’t make Leonel honest and grateful despite her efforts.
It was the worst day of her life.
It made her doubt life and woke her up completely.

After leaving prison, she begged many people and learned where Reddie was buried,
After she was taken away, Jovan probably felt guilty and bought a grave for Reddie.
She spent more days finding the exact location.
Seeing the tombstone, she still felt guilty.
Reddie was her best friend, but she couldn’t personally give him a proper burial.

She didn’t know if Reddie liked this place.
“Mom!”
Raul suddenly stood up and removed a fallen leaf from his shoulder.
“Look, is this a gift from Reddie?”
His tone was soft and gentle.
It was clear that he had come to regard Reddie as his friend as well.
Ariella looked at him, puzzled by his attachment to the leaf, and asked.
“Honey, Reddie is a dog. Do you genuinely want to consider him as a friend of yours?”
Raul was surprised.
His little face showed confusion.
After a while, he hesitantly asked.
“Mom, can’t I be friends with Reddie?”
Ariella automatically replied, “Of course you can.”
After answering, she hit her forehead.
She must have scared Raul.
She recalled the day she was arrested, with Leonel protecting Lailah and staring at her fiercely.
“That’s just a dog, but Layla’s car got dirty!”
She felt devastated.
She was too angry to speak.
Before this, she wondered if she had made a fuss over nothing regarding Reddie’s death.
At this time, Raul’s words healed the wounds in her heart.
She smiled faintly, “Baby, Reddie gave you a gift; it means he likes you.”
Raul quickly put the leaf in his pocket.
“Then I need to give Reddie a gift too.”
He searched his pocket and found a lollipop, then knelt down to put it in front of the
gravestone.
“Reddie, I’m Raul. Do you like lollipops?
“Next time, I can bring you different gifts.
“Don’t worry. I’ll definitely bring you a meat bone!”
Raul clenched his small fist and pressed it against the gravestone.
He was making a promise to Reddie.
Suddenly, a gentle breeze blew.
Another leaf landed on Raul’s hand.
Raul’s face showed surprise.

“Mom, Reddie wants a meat bone!”
Ariella wiped her tears and said, “Yes, we’ll bring one for him next time.”
She then sat beside the gravestone with Raul, talking casually.
Nearby, Leonel watched them.
When their conversation ceased, he felt an urge to confront Raul. He couldn’t tolerate Raul’s arrogance.
Hearing the name “Reddie,” he stopped suddenly.
He didn’t dare to move forward.
It felt as though there were dangers lying ahead.

Chapter 17 Reddie’s Gravestone3
Yet, he stared at the small gravestone, and for some reason, tears started to fall.
Ruth spoke gently.
“Mr. Leonel, let’s go home.”
“I won’t go back!”
Leonel held onto a nearby tree, and no matter how hard Ruth pulled, he wouldn’t move.
Eventually, they had to wait for Ariella to come down the mountain.
As the sun set, the mountain got colder, and Ariella came down with Raul.
After walking a bit, they saw Leonel, his face tear–streaked.
Raul looked concerned.
“Mom, he got reprimanded by the teacher today. He looks very upset.”
Ariella felt heartbroken over Raul’s concern for Leonel.
She sighed, “Baby, let’s go home. Don’t worry; someone else will take Leo home.”
She knew Raul was defending Leonel, suggesting that Leonel’s earlier rude behavior was a result of the scolding from the teacher and that he was angry.
But she understood Leonel well.
Even though he was young, he was very sensitive.
He probably followed them because he worried she might go to find Jovan.
After all, he was only concerned about Lailah now.
“Mrs. Hensley, won’t you comfort Mr. Leonel?” Ruth couldn’t help herself and spoke up.
She always regarded Ariella merely as a housewife and looked down on her, so her tone came across as slightly scolding and demanding.
Ariella maintained her smile, “Ms. Herring, since you, such a talented woman, can’t calm Leo, how do you expect me to? Perhaps you should turn to Mr. Hensley, don’t you think?”
Ruth was stunned and then got angry.
“You can’t leave!”
Leonel, seeming frantic, ran in front of them to block the way, pointing at Ariella.
“Is it because of Reddie that you’re moving out? But Layla said Reddie’s death wasn’t
my fault!”
As he talked, he suddenly pushed Ariella.
Ariella, unprepared, stumbled.
Luckily, Raul held her waist, and she grabbed a tree, avoiding a fall.
Seeing this, Leonel looked scared.
“I… I didn’t… I didn’t mean to…”
He started crying.
Tears ran down his face.

He knew that crying usually worked well.
In the past, whenever he cried, Ariella would stop being angry.
