Chapter 66
They thought, Could she be the future Mrs. CEO”
Many people suddenly began to look at Isabella with newfound respect
But.. a few couldn’t help but feel a deep surge of hostility.
The hospital. The outpatient clinic was bustling with people, the hallway packed from end to end.
Luna was dressed in casual sportswear. A large pair of sunglasses covered half her face, and with her mask and black bucket hat pulled low, no one could have guessed she was the acclaimed director Luna.
Standing next to her was a girl in a white floral dress, around the same age as her. This was her assistant, Jessica.
Luna leaned against the wall, her face full of impatience.
A patient rushing by suddenly stepped on her foot.
“Ah!” She cried out instinctively in pain.
Jessica hurried over to support her, concern filling her eyes. “Luna, are you okay?”
The patient didn’t even realize what he had done and had already darted into the doctor’s office.
Luna flicked her disheveled hair off her shoulder, forcing down the fire in her chest. She snapped, “What kind of ridiculous doctor insists I come to the outpatient clinic for an exam?”
Even doctors can get a little too full of themselves.
Just thinking about that particular doctor made Luna’s blood boil.
She had discreetly instructed Jessica to reach out countless times, offering more money for a private exam at the doctor’s convenience – anytime, anywhere.
After all, Luna’s identity made it awkward to visit a public clinic, which could easily stir up unwanted trouble.
But that doctor refused every time.
He had simply said, “Take it or leave it,” refusing to see anyone outside his clinic hours, flatly rejecting Luna’s request,
Jessica, feeling a bit helpless, glanced around to make sure no one had recognized her boss. She sighed in relief and tried to soothe her, “Come on, there’s nothing we can do. He’s one of the top heart surgeons in the world, and he hardly ever takes patients during clinic hours.”
Luna had been experiencing frequent chest tightness and shortness of breath lately, even fainting once or twice. If she didn’t see a doctor soon, Jessica feared things could take a serious turn.
Though still fuming, Luna knew Jessica only had her best interests at heart.
She sighed and tried to keep her anger in check, curling up in the corner of the hallway, waiting for her number to be called.
Jessica, holding a thermos, stood casually nearby, pretending it was just by chance, but in reality, she was strategically blocking most of the curious stares being thrown their way.
In no time, the queue device buzzed loudly.
The screen displayed: [Number 52, La W**te, please proceed to the doctor’s office.]

Although the system had clipped a few letters from her name, the announcement still caught many people’s attention. They all turned to look at Luna
In her mind. Luna cursed that doctor a thousand times over.
She quickly pulled her bucket hat down further, lowered her head, and followed Jessica into the doctor’s office,
As the door clicked shut, Luna finally exhaled a long breath of relief.
Suppressing her anger, she turned around with a forced smile, ready to face the doctor.
Sitting before her was a young man.
- n. typing away at the computer. As his fingers moved across the keys, a small tattoo perked out from under the cuff of his white coat, catching Luna’s eye.
Despite the lab coat and mask, she could sense a laid-back, almost careless aura radiating from him,
The smile on Luna’s face vanished in an instant. She turned to Jessica, her voice laced with doubt. “Is this really the highly skilled doctor you were talking about?”
She thought. He looks like a scam artist.
Jessica gave an awkward smile toward Charles, tugging on Luna’s sleeve. She leaned in and whispered, “Luna, I swear, he’s
the real deal.”
Though, admittedly, his appearance didn’t exactly scream “doctor”
But his skills? Undeniable.
Luna remained skeptical, eyeing Charles up and down. She thought, This kid looks like he should still be buried in textbooks at university.
And yet here he is, supposedly one of the world’s top heart surgeons?”
stopped typing and looked up at her, his tone serious. “Ms. White, you can question my character all you want, but you can’t question my medical skills.”
He thought, ‘If it weren’t for the fact that this was a clinic, I would’ve given her a piece of
my
mind.”
Some patients had doubted his abilities in the past, and those encounters had often escalated into full-blown arguments.
Eventually, these complaints reached his father, the hospital director, and after a few beatings – figuratively speaking, of course – Charles had reluctantly learned to reign in his temper.
Luna didn’t seem embarrassed about being caught out. Instead, she calmly removed her mask and sunglasses, sitting down. with a composed expression.
She crossed her arms, sizing Charles up with a scrutinizing gaze. “You’re not just some rich kid who got this job through connections, are you? You’re far too young to be working here already. I’m not buying it.”
After all, it was her life on the line. Leaving it in the hands of someone like him? Luna wasn’t even the slightest bit reassured.
She thought, Tm still in the prime of my life, after all-definutely not ready to throw it away:
Charles’s temper flared. He slammed his palm down on the table with a resounding bang.
He shot
up
from his chair, pointing an accusing finger at her as he shouted, “Damn it! You should go ask around before you dare accuse me of getting this job through connections!”
He thought, This woman is driving me up the wall!”
Everyone knew I was only back at Draxenport Hospital because my father had beaten some sense into him- literally. And

now, she had the nerve to insult me?”
How dare she accuse him like that!

her face. She waved her hands Jessica, sensing the situation was about to blow up, quickly stepped in, a placating smile o and said apologetically, Tm so sorry! That’s not what we meant. It’s just that… you’re so handsome, Doctor!”
She thought, If this escalates into a fight, it’ll be impossible to book another appointment with Charles later!”
Jessica practically showered him with compliments, as if they were free.
Not that she even knew what Charles looked like under that mask.
Charles, his ego sufficiently stroked, brushed his hair back with a satisfied smile. “Alright, alright. I’ll forgive you for not recognizing greatness when you see it.”
He sat back down, clearly pleased with himself.
Luna’s mouth twitched as she watched the scene unfold. She was now utterly convinced this guy must have gotten the job through connections.
She decided she had had enough. Rising to her feet, she grabbed Jessica by the wrist and said bluntly, “Jessica, let’s find another doctor.
Caught between the two, Jessica looked helplessly at them both, knowing a storm was about to break out. “Luna… Even though she was worried about Luna’s health, she knew she couldn’t force her to do anything she didn’t want to.
To Charles, Luna’s refusal was a direct slap in the face, an insult to his medical expertise.
Jumping to his feet, Charles hurried over, his tone urgent: “Hey, hey, hey! You can’t just up and leave like this. I have to treat you today, no matter what!”
Let a woman dismiss him like this? Charles thought, “How am I supposed to show my face in Draxenport after this?’
Luna, too, was starting to lose her patience. She had never met a doctor so overbearing in her life. Unable to hold back her temper any longer, she sprang up, rolling up her sleeves, clearly ready for a fight. “Damn it! I’ve never met anyone who dared to push me around like this before,” she growled.
