“Yeah.” Freya nodded, then asked, “What else could it be?”
Kieran had half–expected Freya to explain why she got into Preston’s car the previous night.
But, to his surprise, Freya didn’t take it to heart at all, showing no intention of explaining herself to her fiancé.
The thought constricted Kieran’s chest, making it hard for him to breathe. However, he quickly reminded himself that since he had resolved to hold back his feelings for Freya, he shouldn’t let her actions sway his emotions.
With an indifferent tone, he said, “You can leave now.”
Facing Kieran’s inscrutable attitude, Freya didn’t ask further and turned to leave.
Standing by the door, Jarrett silently broke into a sweat. He thought, ‘Could Ms. Dawson not see that Mr. Sutton was upset? Any normal person would sense something was off, right?‘
By then, Freya was driving toward the Sutton Mansion.
Seeing Freya’s return, the housekeeper warmly opened the door for her and said, “Ms. Dawson, Mr. Sutton instructed me to take you to the basement.”
“Okay.” Freya complied.
Soon, the housekeeper led Freya to the basement. As the basement door swung open, Leland tried to dash out like a madman, only to be shoved back in by Freya.
Leland had little strength to resist after being locked up for a day. Pushed by Freya, he tumbled awkwardly onto the floor.
“Let me out! Please, let me out!” By then, Leland was bordering on hysteria.
Freya caught a whiff of the unpleasant odor in the basement, and, seeing Leland’s disheveled state, she knew what kind of day he had endured.
Being locked in such a dark, cramped space for hours was unbearable for anyone, let alone Leland, a wealthy heir unaccustomed to hardship, who felt like he was near death after a day.
“Getting out is not impossible,” Looking down at Leland sprawled on the ground, Freya said, “Just promise me you won’t repeat your mistakes. After your birthday party, you’ll turn yourself in to the police and stop eyeing the family fortune. Then, I’ll agree to let you go.
“I promise! I promise everything! Just let me out!” At this moment, Leland was desperate to leave, willing to agree to any of Freya’s demands to escape this place.
“Words alone aren’t enough. Sign here first.” Finishing her sentence, Freya threw a contract down before Leland.
Leland couldn’t care less about the content. He scrambled up and hastily signed his name.
Once Freya confirmed the signature was in order, she turned to the housekeeper and said, “I’ll take him with me. Please clean up here.” The housekeeper nodded. “Of course, Ms. Dawson.”
