Chapter 283
Neil was plotting to play matchmaker for Preston but didn’t intend to get himself caught in the crossfire. If he chatted with Freya any longer, she’d probably ask for his resume and a family tree next.
Neil quipped, “Ms. Dawson, I was only asking. I’m not in the market for a girlfriend.”
“Oh.” Freya feigned disappointment, “That’s such a shame. I’m also not looking to date at the moment. Maybe you can ask me out when you’re ready to find a girlfriend.”
Neil cleared his throat awkwardly, trying to mask his discomfort.
This woman was sharp. He wouldn’t dare ask Freya about anything relationship–related, fearing she had a thing for him. After all, with Freya’s status, which guy in their circle would dare make a move?
“Are you full?” Preston asked coldly out of the blue.
Pretty much.” Freya wasn’t hungry, so she only had some fish and shrimp.
Preston said, “Once you’re done eating, head upstairs to write. No need to linger and chat.”
Preston sounded like a teacher. Freya stood up. “Then I’ll go write, Mr. Tyler.”
“What did you call me?”
“Mr. Tyler.” Freya explained, “You’ve been teaching me how to write, making you like my teacher. It’s not too much to call you that.”
With that, Freya headed upstairs.
Neil shook his head at Preston. “Told you not to be so harsh with the ladies. Now look. She’s treating you like a teacher. Good luck chasing after her now.”
“Got nothing better to do?” Preston shot back.
Neil quickly bowed and focused on his meal, not uttering another word.
Meanwhile, at the Sutton Group’s office, Kieran scrutinized the photos Freya sent on his phone, and his brow furrowed.
Jarrett walked in. “Mr. Sutton, we’ve got an engagement tonight. It’s time to head out.”
“Come here.”
“Huh?” Jarrett approached with a puzzled look but came over to Kieran.
Kieran handed him the phone, saying, “Take a look. Does it seem like a meal for one?”
Jarrett observed the photo, which showed two dishes and a soup but also captured the edge of another plate.
After thinking, he said, “Looks like it’s not for one.”
Freya doesn’t like eating much at night. How could she eat all this?”
Kieran was puzzled. Plus, the dishware wasn’t the same as at Freya’s apartment.
Kieran asked, “Is Freya back at her apartment?”
“She should’ve been back by noon.”
“Who took her back?”
