Everyone froze when they saw Kara standing there, looking like she had been through a storm. For a second, they thought they were looking at the wrong person.
After all, Kara, who was supposed to move into the prestigious Sutton Mansion, how could she end up there? And she looked like she had been kicked out, with her clothes all disheveled and her belongings scattered around her.
Kara tried to avoid their gazes, but they still noticed her.
Half–doubting, one of them said, “Kara, is that you? What are you doing here?”
“Yeah, Kara, weren’t you supposed to head to the Sutton Mansion? How come you’re all by yourself out here?”
It was getting dark, and seeing a girl alone on the curb with her bags all around her was not a safe scene.
Bist this morning, Kara had boasted about moving into the Sutton Mansion, and they had all been looking forward to visiting her there.
there she was, sitting by the roadside.
“It was… I got kicked out,” Kara muttered, her voice barely above a whisper.
She didn’t specify who kicked her out, but putting two and two together with the gossip about Kara and Kieran, they quickly blamed Freya.
“It must have been your wicked cousin who kicked you out!”
“I always knew Freya was no good! Her fiancé running off with her cousin must have made her bitter.”
“But kicking you out in this freezing weather? Freya must have a heart of stone.”
The group exchanged words, building up on their assumptions.
Seeing they had misunderstood, Kara didn’t bother to correct them. It was easier to let them think Freya was to blame than to admit her landlady had kicked her out.
“Kara, we’re all friends here. If you have nowhere to go, why not stay with us in the dorm?”
“Exactly. The dorm’s way nicer than here, and we have a spare bed. You should come with us.”
“Yeah, and it’s only for a few days until you move to the Sutton Mansion, right? Staying in the dorm is just as good.”
The girls from her class were so eager to strengthen their bond with Kara, hoping it might give them a chance to mingle with the elite through her.
When Kara heard she could stay in the dorm, her eyes sparkled. She remembered her first visit to Summit University and how much she loved the dorms there. The dorms were luxurious, with three students sharing a spacious three–bedroom apartment, each room beautifully furnished, almost like a high–end condo.
Everyone had their room to ensure privacy, and the amenities included private bathrooms with bathtubs and a shared kitchen and living área. The only catch was the exorbitant annual fee of $200,000, which was way beyond what she could afford.
Unable to contain her excitement, Kara said, “If I could stay, I’d be so grateful to you
all.”
