Luna couldn’t even begin to fathom the kind of punishment Eloise might face if the truth came to light.
Expulsion? That seemed like the best–ca
scenario. More likely, the university would collectively blacklist her.
After all, who would want a student with such a notorious reputation for dishonesty?
“So, what’s our plan for catching her in the act?” Luna wondered aloud. “Today’s the final exam, and it’s even harder than yesterday’s. I bet a lot of students won’t be able to answer the questions. Do you think Eloise might panic about failing, resort to her old tricks, and sneak into the office to change her answers? Should we stake out and catch them red–handed?”
Freya shook her head. “This is too big for Eloise to pull off alone. She must have accomplices, likely some members of the student council, those close to her. Just the two of us staking out could backfire if they spot us. Remember, they’re the student council; they have authority over us. What if they turn the tables and accuse us of trying to cheat? They have more people on their side.”
As get away with changing their answers and graduating smoothly. That would be
infuriating! We can’t just do nothing and watch them
unfair!”
Freya said, “Given how tough this exam is, the school isn’t stupid. They wouldn’t want the graduation rate to hit a new low by setting such difficult questions. I think although the exam is hard, the passing grade might be lowered. It’s probably internal news that hasn’t been shared with us students yet.”
“That makes sense. If the passing grade isn’t lowered, I bet the graduation rate could drop by half.”
“We can think of this, but Eloise might not. As the student council president and traditionally one of the top students, she wouldn’t want her graduation grade to look bad. She’ll definitely try to change her answers to ensure she has the highest score in the school.” Freya was certain Eloise would try to tamper with her exam paper again.
Without a standard answer, Eloise would have to scour through others‘ papers for the right ones. Not to boast, but Freya was confident her paper would rank among the top three in the entire school. And that final question wasn’t something just anyone could answer.
If Eloise happened to copy her answer, things would get much more interesting.
Plus, Freya knew Eloise too well. She wouldn’t let her graduate smoothly without a hitch. The exact nature of her sabotage remained to
be seen.
“Luna, just to be safe, I think we need a backup plan.”
At Freya’s suggestion, Luna’s face showed a hint of confusion.
A backup plan? What kind of backup plan?
The next morning, the university’s official website had already posted the previous day’s exam results.
To ensure fairness, each department displayed every student’s scores on their notice boards.
When Freya spotted her nearly perfect score on the website, she couldn’t help but beam with pride. Luna quickly snapped a picture of the department’s notice board and sent it to her.
Freya was ranked second. But taking the first spot was Eloise.
Even by Summit University’s standards, that was an exceptionally high score, especially considering the high difficulty of this exam. Freya was more convinced than ever that Eloise must have cheated.
“Reya, you’re a genius! Who would’ve thought they’d lower the passing grade by thirty points? This means so many of us can graduate now.”
