(Finding New Happiness) Chapter 3: Ran into the Two
Gazing at Bryce’s anxious departure, I calmly took off the wedding gown and celerah mother one. Then I texted Alex Steven, my new fiancee:
“I’ve already ordered the wedding dress.”
The reply came almost instantly, “Okay,”
“My parents want to invite you over for dinner tonight”
Okay.”
Ever since returning from the temple, I fell severely ill. When I recovered, I told my parents done the annulment. In the six months following the breakup, I quit my job and traded for half year. Upon my return, I agreed to a few blind dates..I met Alex several times and we both fee was a good match. So we set a date. After confirming the wedding dress and sense, I went to 2 nearby restaurant, only to unexpectedly run into Bryce again. Beside tim, Bella ma nedet against him, happily accepting his offerings, looking just like a couple in the faces of romance..Bella loved shrimp but hated peeling them; she only ate ones shelled by Bryce He always took her to seafood restaurants, ordering her favorites. However, I’m allergic to shellfish. I always had to wait until after their little date to eat. My stomach problems waned they
“Alice?” Upon seeing me, Bryce’s face darkened. “You don’t like seafood, do you? Didn’t I tell you I’d be going to get the marriage certificate with you this afternoon? Why are you here? I didn’t spare him a glance, nor did I feel like explaining that the wedding was off. Bella wood up beside him, her gaze towards me as defensive and mocking as ever “Alice, Bryce’s a man, not your pet. Even if he’s married, he’s not your personal property. Stalking him like this. The way you look at him, anyone would find it unbearable.”
Bella had said these words countless times before. Because of that, I’ve had my fair share of arguments with her. Yet every time, all I got in return was Bryce’s dismissive remark, “What’s wrong with what she said?”
She was right. He was right. I was the fool.
It was me who failed to see the truth and fell for a man like him.
“I heard you quit your job.” Bryce said, wiping his hands. “A woman should have her own career. I don’t like women who revolve aHappy me. Learn from Bella. Her latest film’s nominated for an award.”
I looked at Bella’s smug expression. It struck me as amusing. Over the years, the Miller family funded her career. They set up meetings with top directors, scripts were laid out for her to pick She wouldn’t take anything less than an S+ rating, wouldn’t accept a role unless she was the lead, and wouldn’t work with anyone who wasn’t a renowned makeup artist. If the supporting actress was prettier, she’d pass.. She didn’t work overtime, took weekends off, stretching a three–month project into a year. To top it off, Bryce even hired PR to craft an image of her as a talented actress with a keen eye for detail. Just the nominations alone must have cost him a fortune. Was that what he called a career?
I scoffed.“Can’t help it. I’m not ambitious. My mom said that even if I don’t marry or work, the little money we have at home is enough for me to squander for several lifetimes. I haven’t even had my fill of fun; why would I go out and work?”
In the past, to appease him, I took a job, working like a mule for someone else, earning less than my monthly allowance. And I was still enjoying it.
