Chapter 14
Chapter 14
She opens the wooden box “So I would like you to have this” She says placing her hand in the box and bring a gold
chain out
She takes my hand and places something in it.
I look down to see a gold thin chain in my hand with a small gold heart shaped locket attached to the end.
My breath catches in my throat and I look up to mom wide eyed, “W–what no, no I can’t take this mom” I say
She smiles sadly and picks it up from my hand opening up the heart shaped locket and then placing it back in my hand, to see a picture of my dad and me when I was about 3 I feel a lump rise in my throat as I bring it closer to me as my vision slightly blurs.
“It’s for you Lexi, your dad got it for you when you were born and we made a promise to give it to you when you
turn eighteen, but well…things changed.”
“I have something for all the boys…..but only Charles, Aston and Blake have one….obviously it isn’t a heart locket..” She says chuckling softly
I never knew that…….I never knew the three older ones had a picture of them and dad when we were little.
I feel a single warm tear fall down my check as I look at the picture in the locket in my palm and bite my lip looking
back up to mom.
I wrap my arms around her neck hugging her and clutching the small locket as she hugs me back
“Love you mom” I whisper into her neck “I love him mom”
She hugs me tighter and rubs my back “I know, I know honey” She says her voice wobbling and she kisses the side of my head “He’ll always be with you sweetie, always” She says as I pull back and give a slight nod and small smile closing the locket back up and standing up from the bed.
Mom squeezes my hand tightly and let’s go smiling slightly at me with watery eyes.
I smile and turn to go back out before I collapse into tears.
I wipe my check and head to my room placing the delicate gold chain onto my dresser then turning to go to the boy’s room to say goodnight.
I do then come back to mine and slip on some pyjama shorts and tank top not bothering to shower, I’m too tired.
I hear my bathroom door open and Seth comes in, using the bathroom as a short cut to mine from his.
I smile at him and then go towards him and wrap my arms around him hugging him tight and he hugs be back, obviously seeing that I need it.

Chapter 14
“Night, Lex” He says pulling back and kisses my hair “Love ya” He smiles
“Love you too” I smile back letting go and he goes back to his room through my bathroom.
I smile slightly and climb into bed………Seth always knows when I need a hug.
NEXT DAY
I stir awake with the sun shining onto my face. I guess I forgot to close the curtains last night. I glance at the time seeing the numbers shine back 10:30am.
I push myself up out of bed and grab some clothes then head to my bathroom. Luckily Seth isn’t in here so I lock the door. I set my clothes down and turn on the water waiting for it to warm up before slipping of my clothes and stepping into the warm water and squirting some coconut shampoo into my hands to massage into my hair.
After showering I towel myself dry before pulling on a pair of white shorts and a white and blue striped top happy with my choice of clothing as it seems to be hot outside.
I got back into my room and blow dry my hair and brush it, applying little makeup then head down stairs to our new big kitchen where I already hear chaos. I get to the kitchen to see all the others up – which is a surprise – and mom baking pancakes while the others squabble.
I roll my eyes and pick Tom up from the floor where he’s just randomly sat and place him in his high chair sitting down next to him.
Typical. Half of them aren’t even dressed yet, including my twin.
Mom serves the pancakes – when it comes to food in this family you’ve got to practically fight for it, get there first
don’t. and you get food, get their last and there’s a chance you
“By the
way kids you all start school Monday.” Mom says half way through and we all stop eating and look at her “It’s all been arranged, I’ve phoned up all the schools” She says.
I groan “Great.”
“Oooh exciting” Evan smirks…not really joking, yeah it’s all right for them. They will fit in straight away, making friends in the first few seconds they step foot in the building. For me, It’s a whole other story.
As we are cleaning away, well mostly me seeing as the others are lazy, the doorbell rings. Mom goes to answer it and I can hear faint chatter but ignore it and carry on cleaning the dishes. Moments later mom came back in smiling “We’ve got neighbours” She says “They’re going to come around at one for lunch” She says cheerily.
