I didn’t know I was supposed to dress lavishly for just a dinner. Julia and Anna took two hours to dress me up! I had to cut my bathing time because they kept whining.
Isn’t it just a dinner in our own house? Then why the unnecessary fuss? Phew! Anyway, I am glad the clock ticked to the much–awaited time and now I am descending the stairs to an empty table.
An empty table!? The food is there but what about Damian?
I got down the stairs in bewilderment with both Julia and Anna accompanying me on my sides.
“Where is the alpha?” Anna whispered to Julia, and both of them eemed as confused as I was.
I looked at Butler Adolf for answers who stood there near the table. He turned towards me as soon as my heels clacked on the marble floor, greeting me respectfully.
“Good Evening, Luna. Please have a seat” Adolf said, pulling out a chair for me.
“Where is Damian” I asked, still standing after acknowledging him with a nod
“Master has returned from the main office and is in his study with beta Hudson. He shall be here very soon”
I took the seat without replying because it just threw me in an upset mood and I knew it wasn’t Adolf’s fault. I didn’t want to take my anger out on him or anyone else and that’s why I am being quiet.
Earlier he left me when I was still in bed and he didn’t even come to check on me the whole day and now he is late for dinner he invited me to himself.
What a good result I got for spending two hours on this damn dinner. I would have been a lot better at lazying around in my bed and reading some books. Such a good night wouldn’t have gotten to waste.
I took a look around the dining room and released a breath,
Why do I always carry so many expectations around? I keep forgetting my reality and continue treating this sham of a marriage like a real one.
Damian might be my second–chance mate but where I stand for him is something only he can tell. I have seen his face become an array of contempt and rage whenever mates are mentioned
It’s as if he hates the existence of mates and the mate bond itself while that’s the only thing I believe in. At times like this, I feel fear and nausea coming.
Those scary whispers and a feeling of emptying everything I have inside me. The overwhelming urge of panic–all of it just doesn’t leave me alone but I suppress it all.
I take deep breaths and try expelling them all in smokes of carbon dioxide I keep releasing. One poison out with another.
As I filtered my surroundings, slowly coming back to the polished room I was sitting in, the fancy table and the delicious aroma of the food spritzed on the room.
I am getting hungry now. All the tasty food items kept on the table are teasing me as they keep fanning my hunger, making

my mouth water.
Iwas about to order Adolf to set my plate when suddenly Damia and Hudson were coming towards the table from the front, talking amongst themselves.

The moment I saw Damian walking in his suit pants clinging to is legs and a vest over a shirt with tough buttons, his slithery swooning voice and rough touches draped around my body, making it impossible for me to avert my gaze away from his.
And as if he felt me staring at him, his gaze flickered to mine almost instantly and stayed there the whole time till he reached extremely close to the table.
However, I didn’t hold contact with him for longer because I hadn’t forgotten how I had to wait for at least twenty minutes for him to come and sit here at the head of the table for dinner le invited me to himself.
You are petty, aren’t you, Lily?”
‘So are you. Sy!”
If someone w
were to ask me if was I scared of Damian, this whole second–chance mate thing and the marriage, the answer would be yes but despite the fear, I am still me.
I was a princess and I knew how to express my satisfaction and displeasure, both subtly and elegantly. However, it takes a well–groomed gentleman to understand and Damian is a tall, dark and sinful man who is nowhere near gentleness
“Good evening Luna. How have you been? Hudson greeted me cheerfully upon seeing me and I smiled at him.
I have come to like Hudson after the ambush incident. He is the perfect beta who has never once looked down on me or talked to me with sinister intentions.
I can see why Damian trusts him.
“Good Evening, Hudson. I have been good and what about you? All this work must keep you away from the dinner” I said, still smiling but Hudson wasn’t beaming like before.
“N–No, Luna. It just happens rarely when it’s something really important. Otherwise, we always have our meals on time. T Then, I will be leaving” he said quickly, ready to run but I stopped him.
“Have dinner before you leave. The food is ready and you must have not eaten by now as well.” I said, inviting him to the dinner I was invited to.
“N–No Luna, thank you so much for the invitation. However, I must leave. My wife must be waiting for me.” Hudson said with a slight blush and I looked at him with surprise.
“You are married, Hudson?”
“Yes, it has been six months” he answered shyly making me intrigued.
Wow, he is married. You can never tell.
I was about to ask him more when suddenly, a deep voice resonated in the dining room bringing a hail along with it.
“You are getting late, Hudson. Leave Damian said, his words almost becoming the ice shards himself which hit Hudson right through his vitals while he still kept staring at me.
