“Thank you. Your service is rather quick, Damian said, taking the beautifully wrapped locket and hand bracelet from his hands. The shopkeeper smiled his somewhat white and yellow eth on full display.
“Thank you, sir. Please come again” The shopkeeper couldn’t catch the displeasure and stark sarcasm in Damian’s voice as he got busy with the other customers.
I was feeling more relieved and a little disappointed. However, the thing breathing in my nerves slowly took care of that disappointment as we continued strolling the market, stopping the food stalls this time.
“Give us two plates of churros, Damian told the woman behind the churro stall, and she immediately prepared two plates.
I chose churros dipped in ice cream while Damian took simple ennamon–topped churros with a dipping chocolate sauce. They were crisp and sweet.
The crunch was satisfying with a hot and cold sensation, making it a delicious treat. We were enjoying them silently as I basked in his presence while eyeing the next stall, we were going to snack at when suddenly a crowd started gathering near the centre plaza of the market.
. I wondered what was happening there and tried to look at it through different neck alignments getting served with Darnian’s
voice next as another topping on the churros.
“Do you want to take a look?” He asked with a side glance and I nodded. We soon finished our churros and went closer to the
crowd.
“We are here to bring a new and exciting event for you all, A date with your mate. We have prepared an exciting three–stage date for the lucky couple who will win our tacit understanding game.” One of the presenters, dressed like a butler spoke making everyone intrigued.
They had a bright setup and a big banner held on the top of the stage they were standing on which said the name of their event, A date with your mate
“Mates might know each other the best but can they think alike and even better, how quickly can you think to solve a crisis. together, understanding each other” Another presenter said, dressed similarly like the other.
One was a male presenter and the other was female. Both of them also looked like a pair of mates.
Soon the crowd started chattering, speaking in excited and eager voices except for one, the very man who was standing beside me.
“What rubbish, as if that’s going to work” Damian scoffed and I looked at him with disbelief.
Can’t he see the crowd and the shine in people’s eyes? The event is a total hit!
“I don’t think so. I think it’s interesting and worth a try” I said, quietly feeling his laser–like eyes on me the next second.
“Really, Liliana? Do you find this crap interesting? Ah, I forgot you liked these things, the game you play about mates and all” His words were laced with disdain and ridicule which weren’t sitting well with me at all.

“Don’t use that on me, Liliana,” He glared sharply and the air are and him changed suddenly, becoming a breathing menace.
My spine chilled and I couldn’t move but I didn’t deter from my words. We are mates and that’s the truth.
“However, I think it is worth a try to check how harmoniously we can work together as the Alpha and the Luna of our pack” I breathed out the words and slowly the air around him changed, becoming less frightening as he sucked back his pheromones.
“Now are you saying, a game will decide whether we will be able work together or not?” He still seemed upset about the idea of participating in the event when I had not even been asking for it or maybe I did or the conversation just got steered in that way.
“It’s just a fun way to figure it out. There is no harm in trying uniss you are afraid of coming, whatever the situations they are going to put us through”

I couldn’t even dare look at him after I realized I had just provoked him, right after he tried strangling me with hist pheromones!

“Are you trying to challenge my authority, Liliana? Daring to challenge the Alpha of BloodClaw, that’s some fierce courage, would say. Then, I will show you that Damian Edwards never backs off a challenge.” He fixed his stare on me as he spoke before holding my hand.
He suddenly started walking towards the stage and stopped near the front line where presenters were asking for willing couples to step forward and participate.
“I would like to participate with my wife” Damian’s deep voice boomed and everyone quickly whipped their gazes at us.
“Oh, we have our first lovely couple! Everyone welcome them on the stage!” The male presenter roared and everyone started applauding as we ascended the stairs of the stage.
“Mam, can I have your names?” The female presenter asked and I hesitated a little before I quickly gave her fake names.
“It’s Ruby and Cole* I answered and she jotted them on her pad,
“Alright, we have Ruby and Cole with us on the stage and now we are going to have them play our first round of tacit understanding!”
