We are…. husband and wife and Mates!
The buzzer buzzed before I could answer and our time reached its limit.
“Better luck next time, guys. Now, it’s all up to you Ruby” Jacob id but I couldn’t focus on any of that because I wanted to
know the answer.
“As for the word, it was ‘Mates!‘ and the restricted words were Blessed, fated and partners! And don’t forget the special condition.
It was, ‘You can in no way mention or give examples of our event because it contains the word mate!” Ellie said and I looked at Damian taken aback.
The word was mates and yet he couldn’t say that sentence before Does he despise seeing me as his mate that much?
And what sort of hints he was giving before? They didn’t match the word mate at all! Couldn’t he say it’s a special thing? Why would he call it a gamble and more lie than the truth?
Lies?
Does he think mates are lies?
The realization came to me in waves of shock.
Why would he think that way? Is he saying it because of me? Am I not what he expected or wanted to be? How can he call mates a gamble when I am the one who suffered here?
My mate cheated on me, sullying our divine bond and now Damian…he dislikes us being mates as well…does he hate me!?
However, he stood up for me in the ball and he also protected me in the car. He wouldn’t have done that if he hated me.
I looked up at him, hoping to find some answers but his jaw was ense. He was angry… at himself.
Is he upset that we lost this round or…
I gasped when a speculation occurred to me. Did he go through something similar as well with his first mate? After all, both of us are each other second–chance mates.
Then, the way he behaves and reacts…all of it makes sense but its just a speculation. I gazed at him worriedly when a vein glistened on his flesh making his anger prominent and the next moment, Jacob was sliding his arm into mine, taking me to
a corner.
“Ruby, I will give you your first word, it’s ‘Handsome‘ and the restricted words are ‘beautiful, appearance‘ and ‘pretty‘. Don’t give my example as well” Jacob said with a wink and Ellie struck the gong again.
“It’s something you are!” I said frantic because all I could see was our time running.
Damian didn’t answer and just looked at me with his signature raise of the eyebrow without saying anything.
“It’s something about you which makes my heart flutter” I blurted out feeling embarrassed but the game was more

“Oh, handsome appearance” Damian answered with a smirk and didn’t have time to appreciate the audience’s reaction.
“You are almost there,” I said through blushing cheeks and he finally answered.
“Handsome”
“Correct answer. Ruby and Cole’s team has scored three points. They only need one more point to advance into another round.

“It’s a long curved tube–like food which is sweet,” I said and Damian gave one of his other quirky expressions before I had to drop another hint.
“We eat it and it’s a great source of energy,” I said, waiting for him to guess but he just steered away from the topic or maybe he didn’t
“Are you sure you are talking about food?” Damian said, and I saw Jacob stifle his laugh.
“When you squeeze it, does it spill as well?”
“NO!” Gosh what is he talking about!?
The crowd guffawed and I hid my face before my brain blinged with an idea.
“It’s sort of a funny name for what you are referring and it’s a food item! Something you can eat raw” I said in a meek voice and Damian stood there deep in thought before he gave an answer which left the audience in splits.
“Tan banana”
“Just remove one word and that is the answer,” I said in a resigned tone and there we were.
“Banana” Damian said and I took a breath of relief for the funny riot was over.
“Bonanza! Ruby and Cole can now play the next round but there’s still one word left. So let’s see whether this couple will be able to guess it or not.
As for the banana, the restricted words were yellow, fruit and peel” Ellie said and we moved on to the last one which was more difficult than the banana.
“It’s related to marriage” I said and he stood silently like before but this time I needed him to guess.
I urged him with wide eyes and he started speaking if I am not wrong reluctantly.
“Having pups” he said right to the point and I blinked before getting back into the game mode.
“How do we have pups?” I ended up asking biting back my shame and he effortlessly gave a wrong answer.
*Sex”
“When is it done?” I asked not watching any of the presenter’s faces.
“Whenever we feel like it” The crowd cheered at Damian’s smug answer and I felt like hiding inside a hole.

Because I can’t stand even Syl messing with me and having fun.

I was not sure whether Damianw was teasing me or trying to guess at this point because when I am saying special occasion then how can it be every night!?
“The occasion when you begin” Now, that’s ought to do it!
I waited for his answer with bated breath while Jacob started the countdown.
“First night” And there it is.
“Woohoo! That’s the right answer! Ruby and Cole now advance to our second round!” Ellie exclaimed and I sighed in relief.
“Before we take you to the second round of games, the restricted words for the ‘first night‘ were sex, lovemaking and mating while the special condition stated, ‘you can’t mention your reference” Jacob said and both Damian and I stood side by side.
