“Will Ruby eat pretzels or deep–fried Twinkies any time of the day?” The male host announced the first question written on our sheet in black cursive letters on his mike and I felt a grin exploding on my lips.
Are you asking whether the girl who was stuffing her face with churros beside me like a hamster a moment ago would like Twinkies or pretzels?
There are sadly only three options, ‘Pretzels, ‘Deep–fried Twinkies‘ and
She would rather be hungry than get fat‘
The third option is utterly false. She would rather eat both than leave any of them. However, if there’s a choice between salty and sweet, she would choose sweet.
I noticed her eyes shining whenever she would eye the desserts, not to mention, the meticulous care she put into the dessert menu for the ball at our mansion.
It can only be done by someone who holds desserts dear to their heart. This one is an easy win. I ticked the sweet option and waited for the hosts to match our answers.
I gazed at her after I was done dipping the ink on the sheet in a checkmark who sat there on the chair opposite to me with the sheet pinned to her chest as if someone would steal it.
Is she worried someone would peek at her answer? And look at how her brows are furrowed.
Does this simple question require such a deep thought? Isn’t it as simple as breathing? What is she thinking so much about?
I wonder what goes in that little head of hers, not that I would get my answers if I ripped it open. Only blood would ooze, sullying our clothes and I would also lose her in the process.
Such a cumbersome and vain process.
Instead borrowing a vampire’s magic would be much more useful even if it means befriending my archenemy because knowing how her head works will be worth everything.
“Now, shall we reveal the answers?” the female host shrieked in her high–pitched voice and both of us showed our sheets.
Both the black and blue inks were marked on the option B, ‘Deep–fried Twinkies‘.
“Ruby and Cole have scored a point for their correct guesses” The male host yelled excitedly and I suppressed the urge to knock him down.
He should stop yelling in the mike if he wants to earn money out of this crappy event for the remaining four days as well.
“We have our second question on the sheet now, Who is Ruby scared of the most? The options are-”
That would be me, isn’t it?
I didn’t realize I was laughing until the sound fell into my ears. Well, the questions are interesting and the options are even more interesting.
‘Alcohol, do they think she is a typical she–wolf who would be scared of alcohol? ‘Elementary teacher….who put this option

here?
‘Lightning, I have yet to test it out and the last is, ‘Big bad Alpha. This event is begging to be shut down but for now, the answer will be the last one only.

“The options for this question are chosen after a survey of sixty she–wolves!” I watched the female host blabber nonsense while I moved to the most fun part of the game.
Watching her.
She had her pupils enlarged with liquified gold revolving in them for this question. Is she surprised by the question? That would explain the taut lines on her face.
I believe she thinks a lot of the simplest things as well. Hmm, too bad, I am getting curious again. Should I just seek a vampire the next time I go out?
Her words from before were circling in my mind while I waited for her to mark her answer.
‘You could have said the last sentence a bit sooner‘
I couldn’t say it even though it was there at the back of my mind.
Mates…an unpleasant play of fate.
A fucked–up ploy of the goddess.

It’s hateful and fills me up with such a fierce rage every time I hear it that it becomes impossible to control myself. However, when I said about Liliana and I being mates out loud, it didn’t feel as revolting as I imagined it to be if not for the bitter taste in my mouth.
As if I was chewing on a burnt chagrin.
Still, the hatred and the memory remain despite everything even if breathing has become a little easier but I condemn the fact that I let it get in my way and affect my thinking.
It feels humiliating that I am still tied to the past, bringing it along to the present and giving it the power to take form and dictate me however it wishes.
That fills me up with another surge of anger and I wish to end the person responsible for the origin of the fucking memory but I suppress myself.
Giving in to impulsive instincts and letting turbulent emotions affect oneself are the weaknesses of a strong alpha and I go through both of them at the same time because of the fucked–up play of fate, Mates.
“Reveal your answers!”
I showed my sheet after the host’s announcement and it turned out to be a match again.
“Another point!”
I smirked when I saw her acting like a surprised bunny after watching us mark the same answers. Well, it wasn’t too difficult now, was it? She should expect this much.
A predator knows about its prey the best, be it fear, affection, moments of surprise, everything.
“We have advanced to the third question now, Will Ruby save a friend or family in a simultaneous danger?”

Chapter 27
This question can be tricky because if there’s danger, wouldn’t she save herself first? However…

I was suddenly reminded of the ambush in the car from a few days ago. How she tried attacking the assailant recklessly in the hopes of saving me.
I am her family now…will the correct option be family?
+13
I was wrong. She marked friends. That was slightly unpredictable. Aren’t I her family whom she saved? Or does she think of me as her friend?
That would be preposterous.
“Uh–oh, While Ruby is a great friend, Cole seems to hold family values with a high regard. Now, let us move to the next question, Will Ruby rather stay in a burning room or sit in an absolutely fine room kidnapped, given the kidnapper is Landsome”
Are they talking about our marriage? The answer is the second option because Liliana greatly appreciates handsomeness. It’s like her second favourite thing after desserts from what I have observed.
Hmm, I am quite confident about this answer.
I waited for the reveal and I was right.
“They have scored a full three points in the first round of the ‘Guess the answer. Now they need four points more to win the event!” The host announced our scores before handing us a new set of sheets.
Now, it was Liliana’s turn to guess. Wouldn’t that get more reactions out of her? I wondered, intrigued before it was time to answer the first question.
“Does Cole prefer to be with his friends more or does he like to be with Ruby?”
That’s an easy question. What would I do with my subordinates? I would rather enjoy Liliana’s witty company. Watching her is an enjoyable task in itself.
“It’s time for the reveal!” The female host shrieked again and both of us showed our sheets.
It was a mismatch.
Liliana looked at her and mine sheet surprised, watching both of our answers repeatedly before her stare seemed to complain, ‘Why‘
It’s her fault she doesn’t know how interesting her company is. I ignored her silent complaints and flipped the sheet, moving to the second question.
After all, logically, I should be the one with complaints.
“The second question says, Would Cole go out for an annual Magnolia viewing or sleep instead” The hosts said on the mike after discussing amongst themselves.
They would have probably discussed whether they should progress the round further or not because we have already lost the round but they are continuing because the audience is invested in the game.
As for the answer, I would catch some sleep instead of watching flowers which have to bloom every year.
Magnolia viewing is a popular activity in the BloodClaw pack since our land blooms the special and prettiest Magnolia
flowers.

Chapter 27
“Time for the reveal,” I think it might be a match this time.
I watched her sheet expectantly but it was a mismatch, again.
She again grew frantic and I watched her frayed nerves while she matched our answers. She would have been able to mark this one, it was relatively easier.
Really, I wonder what goes on in her head.
The third question says, Will Cole go to the salon with Ruby or enjoy tea with his family?”
Tea with family? I don’t enjoy poisoned teas so it will be the first option. I would rather sit in a salon than watch my fucking stepmother’s face for even a second.
it’s a match!” The male host yelled excitedly when finally both of us had marked the same answer on our sheets.
I grinned.
At least she knows this much. I watched her face light up with just one correct answer before she got fired up for the next and the last question.
I have an inkling, it will be a mismatch again.
“Will Cole stay and appease Ruby who is upset or leave for the warrior training camp of the BloodClaw pack?” Hmm, they must have used the training camp in the question because it’s not easy to get selected and is our most intensive training camp which is popular among the young wolves.
It’s a big achievement if one gets selected. Was this question put here to test how romantic the partner can be? Hmm, shall I see how will she react after marking the first option?
Also, there is nothing for me to gain in the warrior camp since I teach the wolves there myself. Compared to everything, the first option sounds better than all.
“It’s time for the reveal. One, two and Reveal!”
Ah, a mismatch.
I felt my lips curl in amusement when I saw her freeze after she saw my answer. I watched her concerned, about whether she was able to function well or not because she looked taken aback by my answer.
Quite a lot.
I stifled a laugh as we emptied the chairs and she stayed the same the entire time we left the stage and those loud hosts welcomed another couple after us.
Their event has skyrocketed their popularity after we chose to be their first participants. There is now a line of willing couples to participate.
“I can’t believe I got three questions wrong! Why wouldn’t you go for a Magnolia viewing? They are so pretty!” Liliana’s surprised statement tore my attention away from everything and I looked at her.
“I would rather catch on my sleep than view those flowers, don’t you think? I have viewed it a lot of times already?” I said and she pursued her lips not saying anything before she burst again.
“Also, don’t you stay with your friends the whole time then why…why would you choose the first option in the first question?”

Chapter 27
She looked embarrassed of the question and yet she mustered her up courage to ask. Where does she bring her courage
from?
you have any objection to my choice? Am I obliged to change them because of you?” I asked and she flinched, grumbling to herself as she averted her gaze from me.
No, you don’t do that, Liliana Edwards.
I was not done yet.
How can I let go of this opportunity?
自
“We lost the challenge because of your pea–sized brain that couldn’t answer even these simple questions,” I said, lifting her chin with my finger, and bringing her eyes back to my line of sight.
“I–It’s not because of me. It’s because of how unpredictable you are. All of your answers were completely different from my assumptions”
“Then do you not wish to spend time together? Why do you look so averse to the idea that I could choose you over my friends? Do you hate it?” I said, feeling slightly angry that she would want to avoid me.
Why was she jealous the other night then? Is she only satisfied if I don’t warm the bed of other women? Does she only care about the intercourse?
“It’s not that! I–I just didn’t expect you to do that…it’s not that I hate it” She mumbled shyly and I felt a wave splashing in the surroundings before it knocked on the wall of my heart.
“Then isn’t it the fault of your pea–sized brain only?” I taunted, leaving her chin as I felt my lips twitch in a smile.
“You shouldn’t forget who brought us to the third round in the first place. If it wasn’t for me, then we would have lost in the first round only and in the second round too, I found the princess” she said in one breath, huffing as she did so.
“And you are the one who made us lose in the third round” I said casually and she glared at me with unfairness etched on
her face.
