Chapter 12
Isolde collapsed to the ground, clutching Damien’s leg in desperation.
Tears streamed down her face as she sobbed, her voice trembling.
“Damien, I’m sorry! I made a mistake! But I swear, I never wanted to hurt Celeste.”
“This… this was all my father’s idea! He wanted me to get close to you, to use me as a pawn to strengthen his connections.
He pressured me into setting Celeste up!”
“I tried to stop him, I really did! But he told me…”
She hesitated, her voice dropping to a whisper.
“He said Celeste’s feelings for you weren’t normal. That she wasn’t just grateful to you as her guardian–she loved you as a woman loves a man.”
Jer words hung in the air like a bomb.
“He said if you knew she had cancer, you’d be too heartbroken to push her away. That you’d give in to her feelings. And if that happened, I wouldn’t stand a chance with you.”
Isolde crawled closer, her voice rising with urgency.
“Damien, I only did what I did because I love you. I’ve fallen for you completely, and I
couldn’t bear the thought of losing you.”
Her tears fell harder as she tugged at his hand, clutching at him with trembling fingers.
“I don’t want to be your fake girlfriend anymore. I want to stay by your side for real. Make me yours, Damien. Please…”
With that, she tore at her nightgown, exposing herself, and threw herself at him.
But Damien’s only response was a sharp, merciless kick that sent her sprawling to the floor.

“Isolde,” he said, his voice devoid of emotion, “don’t bother justifying yoursel matter whose idea it was yours or your father’s. The result is the same.”
He looked down at her, his expression cold and unyielding.
“From this moment forward, your father will no longer be the director of St. Mary’s Hospital, and your brother will lose his medical license.”
“You
ou won’t see a single cent from me. And as long as I’m alive, none of you will find spectable work in this country again.”
Isolde’s face twisted in horror.
For someone like her–someone who craved wealth and status–this was a fate worse than
death.
Her composure shattered, and she let out a bitter, hysterical laugh.
“You think I’m the reason Celeste left?” she spat.
“You’re wrong! At most, I fanned the flames. But the one who truly drove her away was
you!”
Her laughter turned into a manic cackle.
“I’m nothing to her. She didn’t care about anything I said or did. Even if I screamed in her face every day that you hated her, she wouldn’t have left because of me.”
“No, Damien. It was your actions that broke her. You ignored her, hired me to push her away, and then threw a grand wedding to rub salt in her wounds.”
Isolde pointed a trembling finger at him, her voice filled with venom.
“You’re a coward. You couldn’t face your feelings, so you crushed hers instead. You love her, don’t you? You’ve loved her all along, but you didn’t have the guts to admit it.”
“You called her feelings inappropriate, but what about yours? You loved her and still
pushed her away, all while she was dying.”
“You’re a hypocrite, Damien Sterling. A pathetic, spineless hypocrite!”
