Late for love) Chapter 16

Three days passed, and it was my wedding day.
Jake and I arrived at the hotel to get ready. His parents handled the guests; he
stayed with me.
Looking at Jake, I asked, “Jake, why are you so well prepared in such a short
time?”
He coughed, looking away. He’d planned everything–the house, the dress, the rings–months ago. He only showed them to me after I agreed to marry him.
If I had said no, he would have sealed them up forever.
I understood. Still, there was something I didn’t know. He admitted to
loving me but refused to tell me when it started.
He noticed my expression and knew I was overthinking. The makeup artist finished my makeup, praising my skin. Jake kissed me gently, making me blush.
He smiled, looking at my blushing face.“That’s my wife.”
I punched him gently.
“Jake!”
“Honey, that’s attempted murder!” He clutched his chest and screamed. I was

shocked, wondering if I hurt him. Then he grabbed my hand, kissing it.“Sweetie,
call me more intimately, okay?”
I rolled my eyes, and the makeup artist laughed. He just reminded us not to
ruin the makeup before leaving.
We continued to joke until it was almost time for the ceremony. Jake left the
room. My phone rang.
It was an unknown number. I assumed it was Grant and hung up. But the call came again. I hesitated. Perhaps it was not Grant? I answered and heard a
stranger’s voice.
“Hello, is this Ms. Rosie?”
I said yes.“This is Austin Hospital. Mr. Grant, your boyfriend, had a car
accident. He’s in danger. Please come here now.”
I froze. Grant was in Austin? And he had a car accident?
“Ms. Rosie, are you still there?” The nurse’s voice snapped me back to reality.
I refused. “I’m sorry,
we broke
- up. I’m getting married today. I can’t go there.
Please call someone else.”
I hung up. I knew that Grant came here for me, but as I’d said, we were over.
Plus, he had his family and friends.

The nurse looked awkward. The doctor came and asked if she had called
Grant’s family. She shook her head.
It took an hour to reach Grant’s parents. Learning that Grant was going to
have an amputation surgery and that his right hand was badly injured, they were
devastated and immediately booked the tickets. After obtaining permission from
Grant’s parents, the doctors prepared for surgery.
Meanwhile, my wedding was in full swing. I walked down the aisle with my
grandpa, toward Jake. Grandpa’s eyes were red.
“Grandpa, don’t cry. It’s a happy day.” I was crying, too, but tried to give a
smile.“I’m not going far. I can visit you often.”
He saw my tears and patted my hand. “Okay, let’s not cry.”
The aisle was so short. Grandpa gave my hand to Jake.“Jake, you’re like a
grandson to me. Please take good care of Rosie. I entrust her to you…”
He was choking up. Finally, his little girl was getting married. He was happy
and sad.
Jake nodded solemnly. I had never seen him so serious. Holding my hand
tight, he looked at me with affection.“Grandpa, I’ll cherish Rosie. I won’t
disappoint you or Rosie!”

“Rosie, you’re finally my wife.”
