Chapter 6
The room fell into a stunned silence.
Leo frowned, rubbing his temples in frustration. “Don’t joke about this.”
Joke? Laura looked at the handsome man before her, her heart filled with bitterness. She
ad been his secretary for five years and knew his every move. She remembered the passion of that drunken night, the sincerity in his proposal, and his smile when their child
was born in her past life. All those memories had once convinced her that there was some affection in their marriage–until Melody’s appearance shattered that illusion.
Laura’s eyes reddened, sadness flooding her entire being. Driven by a sudden, reckless
impulse, she asked, “Leo, did you know… I love you?”
Leo froze, his gaze locked on her tear–filled eyes. After a long pause, he looked away, saying
flatly, “If I had known, I wouldn’t have married you.”
It felt as if someone had hollowed out her chest, leaving only searing pain.
Though she had expected this answer, Laura could no longer maintain her composure, and a tear slipped from her eye. Her despair was overwhelming, almost drowning her.
Leo’s heart skipped a beat as he watched her. The unfamiliar feeling made him want to turn away. “I have things to do. You should rest,” he said, turning to leave.

Leo stepped forward, positioning himself between Laura and Ms. Adams, trying to calm her down. “Ms. Adams, please, calm down. We will get to the bottom of this…”
After much effort, the group was finally persuaded to leave.
Laura sat silently in the CEO’s office. After a while, Leo walked in and asked, “Are you
alright?”
Laura didn’t look up, only noticing his footsteps as he approached. An ice pack appeared before her. She took it, pressing it gently to her face, feeling the burning sensation subside
slightly.
Taking a deep breath, Laura looked up and asked, “What exactly happened?”
Leo handed her the project report, massaging his temples. “Take a look yourself.”
Opening it, Laura’s face darkened. The partner company’s name had indeed been misspelled.
Leo’s voice was cold. “Emilia was in charge of this section. For such a major oversight, her quarterly performance will be penalized…”
Before he could finish, Laura interrupted urgently, “Who told you that? Melody?”
“Emilia would never make such a basic mistake. I reviewed this section myself before handing it over to Melody, and there were no errors.”
Leo gave her a cool look and said, “She’s your friend. Don’t be biased toward her.”
Laura let out a bitter laugh. “Who’s the one being biased here? Bring Melody in so we can
