I glanced at Brielle, my eyes flickering slightly.
The stitched–up wound on my face was still throbbing with pain.
“A backdoor deal? That’s hardly enough to take down Silas, and it certainly doesn’t warrant my help.”
At my words, Brielle shook her head vigorously and dashed to the side of my bed.
“No, wait! The real evidence that could take down Silas is right here…”
She pulled a USB drive from her pocket and quickly brought up a video on her laptop. The footage was from the lab’s security cameras, dated on the very day of the fire.
I frowned. “What are you showing me this for?”
Brielle pointed at Silas in the video. “Look closely at what he’s holding.”
Following her cue, my gaze focused on a reagent in Silas‘ hand.
As the realization hit, my heart raced.
So he was the one who caused the fire in the lab!
The blaze had destroyed a ton of critical data. My colleagues had worked day and night to recover it, but several key datasets had been under Silas‘ responsibility.
Just when they were in a panic, I managed to submit the missing data. By the time I was back on my feet, everything had been restored, and the delayed release conference was finally back on track.
The story of how I risked everything to protect the specimens had already spread throughout the research community.
When I walked into the room, everyone turned to me, admiration shining in their eyes.
Just like in my previous life, the unveiling of the experiment was a resounding success, marking a major milestone for our country’s medical field.
As the key contributor to the restoration of crucial data, I was met with a wave of applause.
As I felt the bright flashes of cameras, a bittersweet pride welled up inside me. This glory, which should have been mine, was finally within reach after two lifetimes.
