Miranda was all set to say something, but the words got stuck in her throat.
It felt like an emotion had suddenly exploded within her, spreading through her body like wildfire.
She froze for a moment, unsure of what to say next.
“Wifey.” he uttered, his voice so filled with joy that it somehow managed to sound soft and tender. “I’ve missed you so much.”
Miranda frowned.
“What are you calling me that for?”
Elian deliberately repeated with a grin, “Wifey, wifey, wifey.”
Miranda was left speechless.
Meanwhile, Jasper, who had been munching on peanuts, was so stunned he stopped mid–bite.
He couldn’t help nudging the person next to him.
“Do you know this guy?”
The person next to him replied, “Isn’t that Mr. Ashcroft?”
He turned to the other side and asked, “Your boss? Are you sure you’re in the right place?”
The two people he was addressing were none other than Brian and Aubrey, soldiers who had witnessed
Miranda single–handedly take on a group of rich kids at the shooting range.
Today, they were both in plain clothes, but in their circle, everyone had a rough idea of where they belonged.
Jasper knew they were soldiers, but he wasn’t sure what exactly they did.
Just like he knew Elian worked in the military, but had no clue about his rank or position.
So when he found out Elian had been in Zephra for three years as a domineering CEO, he was absolutely floored.
He rushed over to Zephra without a second thought.
Brian was equally shocked. “Did Mr. Ashcroft have an out–of–body experience or something?”
Aubrey nodded, his expression a mix of disbelief and confusion. “Must be. How could Mr. Ashcroft possibly act so… cuddly?”
They were supposed to be taking their boss out for a breather today.
In just a few days, the base had become as quiet as a church mouse.
But the same Mr. Ashcroft, who was as fierce as a demon back on base, was now being all lovey–dovey?
And the badass girl who amazed them the other day turned out to be his wife?
If she was Mr. Ashcroft’s wife, well, that made sense.
After all, Mr. Ashcroft was such a brute, his wife would have to be a little fierce too, they assumed.
Elian was unashamed, and the word “shame” didn’t exist in his vocabulary.
He always did as he pleased; no one could stop him.
Even in front of so many people, he didn’t care one bit.
But Miranda still had some sense of shame.
So she said coldly, “Shut up.”

Elian nuzzled his head against her neck, obediently replying, “Okay.”
Miranda went silent.
He seemed like a puppy.
Why did she suddenly feel less angry?
Was she being too lenient with Elian?
But she couldn’t deny that seeing Elian today made her happy.
Miranda pushed him a couple of times, but he wouldn’t budge, her brow furrowed. “I’m not your wifey, stop calling me that.”
Elian smirked. “Yes, you are.
You will be sooner or later.
It’s the same thing.
The sooner I call you that, the sooner I get to enjoy it.”

was often at a loss when it came to Elian’s stubbornness.
It was not like it would do any harm, so she let him be.
But being held like this was uncomfortable.
“If you don’t let go, I’m going to have to use force.”
Elian, though reluctant, slowly loosened his grip.
It was the first time he got to hold Miranda, so soft.
That was why he held on for so long, reluctant to let go.
In the past, whenever he tried to hug Miranda, she’d always be a bit tense and guarded.
But this time, she was all soft and immersed in his arms, making his own bones feel like jelly.
