Upon hearing Miranda’s response, Crystal smiled slightly and headed upstairs to her room.
Just then, Jo approached. “Miss, as per your instructions, everything has been arranged for Crystal. The back estate’s systems have been synchronized with her controls, so she can manage the irrigation and lighting systems of any area at any time.”
Miranda nodded. “From now on, whatever Crystal needs, make sure she gets it. Treat her as you would treat
me.”
Jo replied, “Understood.”
“Oh, and keep a safe distance when she’s working on her experiments,” Miranda warned. “Otherwise if she gets upset, she’ll come looking for me.”
Jo hesitated for a moment before uttering, “Got it.”
Miranda was genuinely pleased to have Crystal around. However, Crystal had been facing some challenges lately. Her groundbreaking publications in top scientific journals had caught the attention of not only the academic community but also some unscrupulous biotech companies abroad.
As a result, many were seeking out Crystal. Fortunately, Miranda had been protecting her from the shadows, so Crystal remained untouched by these threats.
Marion had hired a team of professional bodyguards, trained to the level of special forces, to keep a watchful eye on Crystal in Zephra until she arrived here.
Miranda had also taught Crystal how to create defensive toxins for self–protection, ensuring she always carried them with her.
“Oh, about the food stands outside,” Jo asked, “should we have them removed?”
Miranda replied, “No need. Let Bob give them some cooking lessons when he has the time.”
Given their cooking skills, they might not even be able to eat it themselves. To avoid them from starving, she figured asking Bob to give them some pointers could be considered as something nice she offered.
Jo was surprised but nodded. “Alright, I’ll arrange it.”
Once Miranda had finished giving Jo instructions, she headed upstairs herself. With a soft buzz, she found a message from Elian.
Elian sent, [Could you say it again? (puppy eyes emoji)]
Miranda couldn’t help but smile at his words. She didn’t reply immediately. But soon enough, Elian sent another
message.
[Please say it again? (sad puppy emoji)]
Miranda was at a loss. Shoot, she noticed this man had discovered how to manipulate her. She couldn’t help but wonder where the guy, who had appeared annoyingly arrogant and smug as they first met, was now.
Miranda typed back, [Shut up.]
Elian wrote, [Okay.]
Even with that one–word reply, Miranda could sense he was grinning. And she was right. Elian was indeed smiling, unabashedly, in front of Larry.
“What’s got you in such a good mood? Did Miranda agree to be your girlfriend?” Larry asked, frowning.
It was a fair question, considering that was about the only thing that could make Elian this happy lately.
Elian’s smile widened. “Not yet.”

Larry questioned, “Then what’s there to be so happy about?”
Elian uttered, “You’re too old to understand.”
Caught off guard, Larry retorted grumpily, “You little rascal, what do you mean I’m too old to understand?”
Elian glanced at him, sizing him up “Looks like you’re feeling better if you have the energy to get all worked up.”
Larry grunted in response. “So, you saw Mira today?”
Elian’s grin was preserved. “I did. She said she likes me.”
Larry inquired tentatively, “Is there a chance she was joking?”
Elian’s expression turned serious. “Not possible.”
