Mrs. Sterling quickly pulled Celeste aside. “There’s no need to shout at the kid. Talk it out calmly.”
“Weve been warned from the higher–ups that stay clear of Miranda. Anyone who crosses her ends up in a world of trouble. So, why on earth would you go and stir the pot? What huge grudge do you have against her anyway? If things get out of hand, do you think our family has anything to gain?” Mr. Sterling said coldly. “Our name and fortune were earned by your grandfather. This legacy we have, our reputation, if you tarnish it, I’ll have no choice but to cut you off.”
Celeste was puzzled. “Dad, she’s just an adopted daughter of the Lancaster family. How could she possibly be a threat to us? Aren’t I your daughter? Does it not bother you if I’m bullied, humiliated, or even hurt?” Celeste’s voice was a mix of anger and confusion.
Mr. Sterling had done engaging with Celeste. “Remember what I said. I’ve already arranged for someone to take over your social media accounts. You’ve brought enough negative press as it is! And you think the Ashcroft family would still consider an alliance through marriage? Do you really believe Elian would want anything to do with you?”
Those words hit Celeste hard. She, who had always maintained a poised and dignified demeanor, felt it slipping away.
She was supposed to be the highest–ranking debutante in their circle. She always looked down on the other heiresses because she knew they weren’t in the same league.
But now this Miranda had come along, challenging her at every turn. And even Hugo and his friends had taken Miranda’s side. Celeste wasn’t just upset; she felt a burning sense of injustice.
Ever since Elian had made an appearance, Miranda hadn’t seen him again. He’d mentioned he’d be busy for a while.
Meanwhile, Miranda planned a visit to inspect the Lancaster Group’s operations in Virell, and the Flying Fish Legion’s branch there. Rumor had it that the entire eSports club had relocated to Virell.
Marion insisted that she appear in the media at least once a month to keep the buzz alive. After those films Miranda had squeezed into her schedule were released, her popularity had surged even more.
She hadn’t appeared in any more variety shows or events since then. Her first appearance on an eSports variety show had become almost legendary among her fans.
Miranda, with her natural charisma and sharp wit, had earned a reputation online as the stunning and sassy heiress, hogging the limelight.
Even without attending events or updating her accounts, people still reminisced about Miranda’s online roasts. Fans affectionately dubbed her “the star who’s missed from the start.”
So, from time to time, Miranda had to make appearances and fulfill the obligations Marion set for her.
While she was checking in on the Lancaster Group’s business, Sebastian returned to Virell. As soon as his plane landed, he shot her a message.
Sebastian wrote, [I’m back.]
Miranda texted, [Okay.]
Her reply was brief. But soon, Sebastian sent another message.
[Miranda.]
Seeing her name, Miranda shot back a puzzled, [?]
Sebastian responded, [Nothing.]
Miranda sent, [Just let me know when you’re settled.]

It took a while before Sebastian responded with a simple [Alright.]
Sebastian turned off his phone screen and looked out the car window. The familiar streets of Virell brought a layer of warmth to his otherwise frosty glasses.
He took off his glasses, noticing they still had some dried blood on the frames. He pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and meticulously wiped the glasses clean.
After all, if he was back, he might as well spruce himself up.
