Beck stared at the dossier on Miranda, as well as the profiles of the few people who had been in the same prison with her. He spoke slowly, naming someone who was eerily similar, “Commander Ashcroft of Fort Titan.” Simon chuckled, “Yeah, aren’t they quite alike?”
“But she’s free,” Beck replied suddenly, “Her soul is untamed and free.”
That, indeed, was where the two differed.
Simon agreed with Beck on this point.
“And that’s exactly why we need someone like her. Do you think Miranda only has these three people around her?” Beck glanced at the trio in the photographs: Marion, Maximus, and Crystal.
“Those willing to follow her lead surely aren’t limited to these three. There might be others working in the shadows,” Simon said, narrowing his eyes. “That girl, she’s something else.”
“And her abilities?” Beck inquired further.
“Just keep an eye on her,” Simon advised. “As long as she fulfills her end of the bargain when we need her, we don’t need to worry about what she’s up to on the side.”
Simon understood that forging a pleasant working relationship with someone like Miranda was far more effective than trying to brainwash her. People like her, they responded to genuine treatment.
“Understood,” Beck nodded, recognizing the importance that their superiors placed on Miranda. She possessed a unique ability unlike any other, one that could enable her to build an empire of her own.
After leaving the small diner, Miranda drove to the Flying Fish Legion’s branch in Virell. She had initially thought that the Hawke family reaching out might be related to Neura Core, or perhaps because of the Alden family affair. After all, she had played a significant role in getting that family behind bars, even laying a trap to extract Neura Core from them.
The most likely reason the Hawke family wanted to see her was for their own gain. But to her surprise, their intention was to bring her back to the Hawke Group’s headquarters.
She had little interest in the Hawke Group’s headquarters. But once they started asking around about her, she had Marion do some digging on Virelia’s Hawke Group. Originally from Ardenza, the family had relocated hundreds of years ago due to war, putting down roots in Virelia. They ran a vast, family–owned enterprise, primarily dealing in raw materials for the defense industry, while also diversifying into sectors like aircraft and smart machinery manufacturing.
The Hawke Group had amassed their initial wealth through several wars, which allowed them to soar as a top–tier global business. She knew that Elian’s company bore a resemblance to the Hawke Group’s operations, though the Ashcroft family had expanded into energy and power sectors as well.
Elian had once mentioned that the Ashcroft family had a dedicated research institute, housing top experts in various fields to churn out patents, necessitating their low–profile approach. Despite not being groomed as the business heir, Elian held a significant standing in the Ashcroft family, a fact she had learned from Jasper Vane.
Ultimately, the Hawke family wanted her at their headquarters for the substantial benefits she could bring. With her company, her people, and her resources, joining the Hawke Group would mean her assets would effectively become theirs. It was as if they were blatantly counting their profits at her expense.
So far, the only person from the Hawke Group she had a shred of goodwill towards was Carter, simply because he was straightforward, unlike those calculating types. As for Darcy, while he seemed normal, there was a tinge of ulterior motives in his demeanor. Even if there weren’t, she had no desire to get entangled with them. Why not stick to her pharmacy business?

Miranda’s attention was drawn to a heated exchange in the company’s live streaming room. An assistant politely explained, “Miranda, this is our company’s streaming room, with dozens of live stream boxes. The manager of our streaming department is training some newcomers in this one.”
The voices were familiar to her. Peering through the glass, she saw the source of the quarrel. It was them.
