His Mistake 30

Chapter 30

AMAYA

I hurry to the doctor on shaky legs, momentarily forgetting abi Caesar and his power tantrums

That’s me, doctor. How’s my son? Will he be okay? How’s he doing?”

Judging from the doctor’s expression, I can already tell that sothing has gone horribly wrong

Come with me, please. We need to talk about your son’s condition.”

My heart is on the verge of beating out of my chest as I follow the doctor to his office. I barely register when Jayla gives me a pat on the back for encouragement

Finally at the doctor’s office, the middleaged man waves me to seat in front of him but I’m too agitated to sit

Can’t I just see my son first? I really need to make sure he’s okay I ask worriedly

The doctor pushes his tortoise shell glasses up the bridge of his nose and calmly takes his seat

Miss Miller, from the symptoms your son has displayed so far and my diagnosis, I’m afraid he’s suffering from Anaemia. For a moment, I’m not sure I’ve heard right. The world seems to tilt on its axis and all of a sudden, I feel dizzy as hell I finally sink into the chair and grip the edges of the table in front of me so hard, my knuckles turn white

Whwhat did you say?”

The doctor’s eyes shift with sympathy. He’s fully human but I can still spot the mysterious shadows in his deep green eyes

Your son has anemia, Miss Amaya. Being a purebred werewolf, he might develop an immunity to the disease later in the course of his life. However, right now his symptoms are just starting to show. He’s barely two weeks old and it’ll be hard for his body to fight the disease without help.”

What are you saying, Doctor?I ask, half rising from my chair. What do you need to do to make my son better?”

He nods. I was getting to tha. We need to begin treatment immerliately. Your son needs blood to help boost the red blood cells in his system. Unfortunately, he’s not human so we cannot use the blood we already have in store at the blood bank here at the hospital.”

Dread curls in my stomach. What are you saying, Doctor?”

Miss Amaya, your son needs a special type of blood from a pack of werewolves called the FireDragon Pack. Their blood is known to provide fast healing for all types of diseases. Do you know them?”

1 blink in surprise. I’ve heard about the FireDragon Pack. Every werewolf in the BlueRivers Pack is familiar with them. The are the elite healers of our clan. Their services do not come cheap and because of this, they only cater to wealthy and influential wolves in the clan. Their blood is known to promote speedy healing for every type of injury or disease imaginable

The knots in my stomach are quadrupling by the minute

Um.. do you have an estimate on how much blood he’ll need and how much it’ll cost?”

Dr. Jake flips through the folder on his table, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose for the umpteenth time in the pa

five minutes

A pint of blood from the Fire Dragon Clan costs five hundred thousand dollars. Your son will need about three pints

month to keep his anaemin in check”

I almost choke as the doctor calls the amount

Wait do you mean five hundred thousand dollars?”

He gives me an odd look. Yes, ma’am. Five hundred thousand dollars. Your son is out of danger for the time being but advise that a deposit of the amount be made this week so we calicommence his treatment as soon as possible before his condition worsens.”

My bram is spinning in a billion different directions as I mull over the doctor’s words. Five hundred thousand dollars Where the hell will I find that amount of money

Isn’t there any other way?I ask, hating the trace of pity I can detect in my tone. There’s no way I’d be able to afford five hundred thousand dollars for one pint of FireDragon blood, talk more for the rest of the month.”

Dr. Jake considers my distraught expression for a second, then snaps the folder closed and leans back in his seat The only other alternative is for us to go the traditional route. We can treat his anemia like we’d treat the symptoms of every other human being with traditional medication, but Neveah is a baby. Not just any kind of baby, he’s a werewolf

Traditional medication might not work for him, and if it does, it might take ages. All you need for this week is five hundred thousand dollars to get the treatment started. You can pay up the rest at a later date.”

1 bite my bottom lip so hard, I taste blood. Where the heck will I find five hundred thousand dollars before the end of the week

Just then, Dr. Jake gets to his feet and takes off his rubber gloves

If you’d excuse me, Miss Amaya, I’ve got other patients to examine. You can stay here for as long as you want.”

Despite the worry gnawing at my soul, I smile my thanks and also get to my feet

Can I see my son now?”

Dr. Jake nods. Yes, of course. He’s at the nursery right now. You can see him.”

Thank you, Doctor.”

I walk out of the office with a heavy heart. I need to make five hundred thousand dollars by the end of the week. How the hell is that even possible! But I need to make sure my son is okay

Oh, goddess, why did this have to happen now

When I step inside the nursery, the first thing I see is a cradle by the window, I would recognize my son’s thick head of cur red hair even from a mile away

My heart breaks a little more as I take in my once bright and bubbly baby boy. Now, he’s sick and silent. I need to do something about this. I need to make sure my son is well again

I don’t even realize that I’m crying until I feel a tear plop on my arm as I look down at my son

Hang in there, Neveah. Mommy will fix this, okay? Mommy will make sure you become well again. I promise.”

I wipe a stray tear off my cheek and take a deep breath. Now is not the time to cry. I need to find a solution to my problem

But no matter how hard I think, I can only come up with one way of making five hundred thousand dollars by the end of

the week
