Chapter 5
I do not understand a single thing that happened since Caesar got that call. All I can say is that I’ve never seen him look so scared so vulnerable.
I never knew he had a daughter, but then, what do I really know bout this man anyway?
The moment he ended the call, he literally dragged me into the far despite Alistair’s orders that he leave me at the engagement party. And I’m thankful that he never left me behinil.
I’ve asked him a dozen questions in the past five minutes but he basn’t answered any of them. His eyes are as cold as ice. His body language is even colder.
Without thinking, I slide across the seat, wrap my arm around his and lay my head on his shoulder, silently lending my support.
He’s stiff and unresponsive at first and I’m literally shaking with the thought that he’d push me away. But he doesn’t
He just sits there and lets the hold him.
Chaos descends the moment we arrive at the hospital. Caesar approaches the first nurse he sees, looking calm and desperate at the

“I’m here for my daughter. Her name is Michaela. She has a blood transfusion issue.”
The nurse nods
“Actually, sir, Michaela has been wheeled in for emergency surgery. She’ll be out in two hours. The surgery will determine if she’ll make it or not.”
My heart twists at the look of controlled panic in Caesar’s eyes. As a mother who just recently lost her baby, I wouldn’t wish that pain on anyone.
“Okay, thank you.” He says quietly.
He lowers himself into the nearest chair, whips out his phone and starts typing furiously, his body language stiff and cold. Not knowing what else to do, I decide to get us some coffee. When I return, he still hasn’t moved from that position. “Um. can you tell me what happened to Michaela?” Lask cautiously as I stretch the cup of coffee towards him
of hurt reverberates in my chest when he just continues to ignore He doesn’t answer. He doesn’t even look at me. A pang
Two long hours later, a doctor walks out of the emergency room and only then does Caesar lift his head from his phone. “Doctor, how’s my daughter?” He asks urgently.
“She’s out of danger for the moment, Mr. Manchester. I’m sorry, but She should be awake in an hour. Please, excuse me.”
still cannot assure you of her permanent recovery.
Sensing that he might need some time alone, I decide to take a walk outside and call Jayla to fill her in on today’s happenings and also check in on my babies.
An hour and thirty minutes later, I return to find out that Caesar had gone in to see his daughter thirty minutes ago.
Curious, I tiptoe to the emergency room and stand by the door. The sight that greets me has my heart lurching in my chest.

Chapter 5
Caesar, the big, bad alpha GO is seated on the bed, cuddling atle girl who’s tethered to so many wires, I can barely keep
count.
What draws my attention is the utter look of trust in her bright green eyes as she looks up at him.
She doesn’t look more than five years old.
and how are you, daddy?” She asks in a frail voice. “Are you stil having bad dreams? Have you been taking your medication?”
Caesar nods. I would give anything to see his face right now.
“Yes, my baby. I can assure you that daddy has been a very good boy.”
She giggles and the sound tugs at my heartstrings.
“But you’re not a boy, daddy. Did you bring my present? You promised to bring me a gift when you come to visit. Where is
it?
He sits up, still holding her tight.
“It’s a surprise, baby. I’ll call for them to bring it right now.”
He dials a number on his phone and two seconds later, my phone rings.
The ringtone is so loud and so sudden, a gasp of shock slips past my lips.
The sound has Caesar turning in my direction. Even his daughter struggles to see who it is.
His eyes narrow suspiciously:
“How long have you been standing there?”
“Um… I just got here.” I lie through my teeth.
He nods, but it’s clear from his expression that he doesn’t believe me.
“Well, come in. He waves me in.
I
All my instincts are telling me to run in the opposite direction, but I force myself to walk towards them instead.
When Caesar’s daughter sees me, her eyes light up and her mouth drops open in awe.
“Wow, daddy. She’s beautiful She’s a princess!”
My lips stretch in a nervous smile as Cesar holds my gaze with his dark, intense eyes.
“Yes, baby. She is.”
“Is she my present?” Michaela asks suddenly.
Her question has me blinking in surprise. Me? A present?
My shock triples when Caesar replies.
“Yes, sweetheart. She’s your present. Her
r name is Amaya.. and she’s your
vour new mommy-

My mind is spinning with a thousand emotions as I pace the roof the hospital, but the emotions I recognize the most are anger and confusion.
Finally, Caesar arrives and I’m forced to focus on my annoyance and ignore how utterly gorgeous he looks with those hands tucked into the pockets of his slacks.
“What the hell was that?” I snap, the montent he comes closer.
“You never told me you were bringing me here as a present for your sick daughter, Caesar. I would definitely have appreciated a heads up.”
I expect him to say something in response, but the only response I get is a tick of his perfectly sharp jaw.
“My daughter suffered a head trauma after her mother threw her from a one storey building to spite me because we had an argument.”
All my anger dissipates immediately. My blood literally runs col
“Wh–what?”
He continues like he cannot see my distress.
“A year ago, the doctors told me that she had two years left to live. Her brain was damaged beyond repair as a result of the fall. Her mother is human. Michaela is only half–werewolf, so her healing abilities aren’t as strong as ours.
A week ago, I was told that she has less than a year to live. Apparently, her brain injury is worsening by the day.
My daughter knows she’s dying. I asked her if there was anything she wanted before she went to Heaven and she said she wished for a mommy with red hair. She’d always dreamt of having a mommy with red hair.”
My heart nearly drums out of my chest as I shakily lift a finger to touch my red hair.
Caesar holds me captive with his gaze.
“When I saw you, I knew you were the perfect candidate, Amaya.

We don’t have much time left so if you agree, I’d like us to get married tomorrow…”
