Chapter 19
Nathan detested the feeling of being doubted. Regardless of his actions, he always carried the confidence to own up to them.
‘Could it really not be him? Cassidy’s heart sank as she stole a glance at Nathan. She wished Nathan had taken Paisley instead At least, he wouldn’t have risked Paisley’s safety. But if it was not him… Not in the mood to continue. Cassidy wheeled around
and left
Nathan got up right away and strode to catch up with her.
“Let go of me!” Cassidy shook off his arm angrily. She was in a hurry to search for Paisley and had no time to waste on him. Nathan was infuriated. He grabbed her shoulder and pinned her against the wall, locking eyes with her. “Are you that worried
for her?”
Cassidy was amused by his question, much less comprehending where his fury stemmed from. “Paisley’s my daughter. Shouldn’t I be worried?”
“I can help you find her, Nathan stated. He figured it wouldn’t be hard to locate a child in Broburgh
Cassidy sneered, “Do you think I’m here to beg? How dare you ask me if I’m worried? Wouldn’t you be too, if Jayden was gone?”
Nathan was stunned to no end. Indeed, when Jayden was born, he could not care less about the boy because the boy was not Cassidy’s flesh and blood. Thinking that giving life to that boy was all a mistake, he could not bring himself to love Jayden.
He had convinced himself that he lacked any paternal instincts. Weeks turned into months after Jayden’s arrival, and Nathan kept his distance, never engaging with the child. After losing Cassidy, Nathan saw no purpose in loving another woman’s offspring
It wasn’t until Jayden’s first birthday when, newly walking, the boy stumbled to Nathan, taking his hand and asking to be lifted. Jayden coming to Nathan, of all people, was the moment Nathan realized how much he loved that boy. At least, Cassidy did give birth to Jayden, and that meant he was also a part of Nathan’s beloved Cassidy.
In Nathan’s perception, a mother’s love for her child was an extension of her affection for the child’s father. Nathan presumed Cassidy’s strong bond with Paisley was solely because Josiah was the father.
“Nathan, I don’t have time for you right now! I told you, Paisley’s my life. If anybody dares to hurt her, I won’t let them off!” bellowed Cassidy.
“You love Josiah this much?” questioned Nathan.
“Duh! Josiah’s more noble than you! At least, he wouldn’t make me carry another woman’s baby! Who should I love if not him? You? A man who only knows to use me mocked Cassidy.
Nathan retaliated with a cold tone, “You see me as someone who u

uses you?”
“What’s the point of bringing this up?” Cassidy shoved Nathan away in disappointment and said coldly, “Nathan, do you really care about me? It feels like you’re not even afraid of losing me. Has anyone ever truly cared for me? Not the Jensen family, not the Howell family, not even you… Has anyone considered my feelings, even for a split second?”
Nathan pursed his lips.
“If you claim to love someone yet treat them poorly, your love is worthless. You don’t understand love, so you don’t deserve to love me!” was Cassidy’s last speech before she opened the door and marched out.
Nathan stood up straight, watched her scurrying off, and frowned, brooding over Cassidy’s parting words.
Cassidy reached the parking lot and hopped into the car when Josiah called. “Cassidy, where are you?”
“Cypress Corporation,” answered Cassidy.

Chapter 19
Josiah was stunned. “Why did you go there?”
“I thought… Nathan took Paisley,” explained Cassidy.
“And?” Josiah prompted.
“She’s not with him. What about the surveillance footage? Have you checked them? Any leads?” inquired Cassidy.
The f
footage showed Paisley entering a blind spot with another kid and disappeared, replied Josiah.
“Which kid?” Cassidy was confused.
“All the kids were in identical school uniforms, making it hard to identify. It seems to be a boy taller than Paisley. The teacher was also frantic. Everyone’s at a loss, elucidated Josiah
Cassidy gritted her teeth and suddenly thought of something. “Could she be with the Jensen family?” Despite the situation, her motherly instincts kept her surprisingly composed.
In response, Josiah proposed, “Could it be them? I’ll dispatch someone to investigate right away. I’ll notify the police first.”
“Okay.” With that, Cassidy drove to the Jensen residence.
At the same time, the bodyguards from the Saunders family also arrived. They lined up neatly, emitting an intimidating air as they stood poised. “Ms. Saunders.” Everyone bowed and greeted Cassidy respectfully, awaiting her directive.
Cassidy approached and asked, “Where’s Josiah?”
“Mr. Saunders is at the police station making a report, a bodyguard replied.
Right then, a Maserati stopped at the gate. Cassidy looked over, only to see Kenny, Samantha, and Meredith getting out of the
The moment Samantha laid eyes on Cassidy and the stern–looking bodyguards at the entrance, she froze, perplexed. But soon, she remembered the lavish 6 million dollar gown and sneered furiously, “Well, what’s with so many people?”
Meredith coaxed Samantha and immediately walked to Cassidy, asking amiably, “Cassidy, why are you here?”
Cassidy glanced at her. “Why can’t I
A short escaped Kenny. “After shunning us all, denigrating the family name, why grace us with your presence now?”
“Don’t put it like that, Dad!” Meredith cooed as she turned to Cassidy and said with an earnest tone, “Cassidy, Morn and Dad are upset over the 6 million dollars for the gown. That’s a lot of money. I know you hate us, but let me take the heat. Don’t blame them.” Meredith looked innocent and aggrieved as if she was shouldering all the wrongs in the universe.
Cassidy sneered, “Drop your innocent act, Meredith. Don’t you feel disgusted by yourself?”
Kenny rushed over and pulled Meredith behind him, shouting, “Watch your tongue!”
“Dad, it’s okay” Meredith stepped forward, pulling Kenny behind her while smiling at Cassidy. “Dad’s just upset. It’s been a tough year for him, you see. Spending 6 million dollars on a gown is excessively high. We’re family, so why put us through
this?
Cassidy grasped the implied message in Meredith’s words immediately and sneered coldly, “You mean you want me to return you the money?”
Meredith hastened to clarify, “No, I didn’t mean that. It would be nice if you were willing to, of course. Family shouldn’t treat each other like strangers.”
Cassidy laughed at Meredith’s absurdity. “Quite a plan there, Meredith. Eyeing on my money after stashing the gown? Trying to get more bang for your buck, huh? Fat hope. You must overestimate yourself to talk terms with me.”
