“I’ll let you know if we need your help.” Luisa said, her voice coming out sharper than she intended.
Clark’s smile dropped, but he restored it almost immediately, and an awkward silence settled over the table for a few seconds until he broke it with another ferrible joke. A few minutes later, their food was brought to them.
“Luisa, are you sure everything’s okay? You haven’t taken a bite yet,” Thalassa asked, noticing Luisa was just poking her salad with her fork after she and Clark had already been eating for a while.
“Everything’s fine, Lassa. Don’t worry,” Luisa replied, forcing herself to take a forkful of salad to ease Thalassa’s
concern.
But she could feel Clark’s eyes on her every few seconds. Not wanting to raise his suspicions, she forced herself to finish everything on her plate, acting as normal as she could.
When they were done, Clark paid the bill. Just as Luisa thought they were about to leave, he excused himself.
“Will the ladies excuse me? I need to use the restroom for a bit.”
Thalassa nodded for him to go ahead. Clark got up and walked off towards the washrooms
“Clark, your phone…” Thalassa called after him, but he was already too far away to hear.
Once Clark disappeared from sight, she turned to Luisa, her expression curious. “What was that earlier, Luisa? You were a bit rude to Clark.”
Luisa had planned to talk about it with her when they returned to the office, but she couldn’t contain her anxiety any longer and blurted out, “Lassa, you need to get away from Clark.”
Thalassa stiffened, her face tightening. “Luisa, what are you talking about?”
Glancing toward the restroom area to ensure that Clark wasn’t returning, Luisa leaned in. “He’s dangerous, Thalassa. He’s not the good person we thought he was. I’m certain he was behind the sabotage.”
Thalassa’s eyes narrowed, hardening. “You’re sure? Who is this coming from? Is it you or Alden, or worse yet, Kris?”
“Thalassa, Alden didn’t—”
“Please, Luisa,” Thalassa cut her off. “Yesterday, you were pushing me to give Clark a chance. And now, suddenly, after Alden visits you, Clark’s dangerous? What’s changed?”
Disappointment darkened her eyes. “I thought Alden was serious about you, but if he’s only coming to see you because Kris put him up to it, maybe I was wrong.

Luisa winced at the sting of her words. “So, you also think the only reason a man would want to be with me is if he had ulterior motives?”
Thalassa’s eyes widened in surprise. “No, of course not, Luisa. I just don’t like the idea of him using you to get to me.”
Luisa’s voice took on an edge. “That’s because he’s concerned about you, and frankly, so am I. You and I haven’t been thinking critically about everything. On the day before our collection was destroyed, what really were the chances that Clark would’ve randomly suspected that something like that was going to happen when you and I hadn’t even thought about it? Unless he knew because he’d planned it just to have Kris blamed for it.”

“Yes, but what if he used that as a perfect excuse to set Kris up?”
Thalassa stared at her, disbelief written all over her face. “Since when did you become such a defender of Kris, Luisa?”
Running a frustrated hand over her hair, Luisa muttered, “I’m not defending him. I don’t care about him I care about you, Lassa, and I don’t want anything bad to happen to you.”
Thalassa went silent for a moment, digesting Luisa’s words, Doubts flickered in her eyes, and finally, she asked, Did Alden give you any proof that Clark was behind the sabotage?”
Luisa sighed, shaking her head. “No. But… I trust him.”
Thalassa exhaled slowly. “I’m sorry, Luisa. Yes, maybe Alden is trustworthy and he’s only telling you this because that’s what Kris told him and he believes it. But I don’t trust Kris Miller. Not a single bit.”
“Thalassa-” Luisa began, but she fell silent when she saw Clark returning from the hallway.
“We can leave now,” Clark said, picking up his phone before scanning their faces. “Everything alright?”
“Yes,” Luisa replied with a tight smile. “Shall we?”
The ride back to the office was filled with an unspoken tension, even as Clark kept up his usual stream of jokes. When they reached the office parking lot, Clark turned to Thalassa. “Same time tomorrow?”
“Sure,” Thalassa smiled but it didn’t reach her eyes as she opened the car door and stepped out. Luísa immediately got out after her, not bothering to say goodbye to Clark.
Watching them walk away, Clark’s jaw clenched with fury as he pulled out his phone and unlocked it. Luisa’s nervous and impatient behavior towards him had made him suspicious, especially after she’d received a visit from Kris’s friend.
That’s why he had set his phone to record her and Thalassa’s conversation when he’d left for the restroom
As he hit play on the recording, his teeth ground together, fury building inside him with every word Luisa spoke about him, trying to convince Thalassa to stay away from him.
“Stupid girl,” he muttered, a sinister smile curling his lips. “Why did you let them turn you against me, Luisa? 1 liked you. I really liked you. But you won’t ruin my plans. No chance.”
Tossing his phone aside, Clark opened the glove compartment and took out another phone, this one connected to a private network that couldn’t be traced back to him. He dialed a number.
“Akim, this is Clark Morgan. I have a job for you, and I want no mistakes.”
