Chapter 1 Call Off the Wedding
Grace Parrish thought her love with Antonio could conquer all after 10 years. Her world was turned upside down right after her engagement party. She found out she was just the replacement for Antonio’s true love and a pawn in her sister’s scheme. Her love was a joke. Grace put on her sunglasses and packed her things to say goodbye to her past. But it was only the beginning of her story. Complicated relationships and the truth behind them formed an absurd dramatic show of the
rich families.

“Mom, I’m calling off the wedding.”
The night of her engagement party, Grace Parrish called her mother Judy. Her tone was calm, but the weariness in her voice was obvious.
Judy paused before asking tentatively, “What happened? Is it…Claire? She upset you again?”
Grace shook her head gently despite Judy couldn’t see her. Grace replied in a low voice, “Nothing. I just decided to stop lying to myself.”
It took Judy a moment to speak. She sighed, “Claire likes to compete against you. You always let her win. But it isn’t enough for her. Even Antonio is her…”
Judy tailed off as if she wanted to spare Grace the pain.
Grace forced a chuckle. Like she was mocking herself, she

There was a long silence on both ends of the phone. Grace clenched the phone unknowingly, her knuckles turning white.
Grace couldn’t help but remember what happened at the party a few hours ago.
When Claire entered the hall in Antonio’s arms, there were controlled exclamations around her.
Claire was in a bright red dress with delicate makeup and a bright smile. She looked like a fairy out of a picture. Antonio was in an ironed suit, looking gentle and elegant.
They stood side by side. People would think they were a couple who were about to get married.
“Grace, you don’t mind this, do you?” Claire smiled at Grace. She sounded so innocent. “I’m only taking care of Antonio for you.”
Before Grace could say anything, people started whispering.
“The younger daughter of the Parrish family is so beautiful and more elegant than her sister.”
“Look at them. I think the groom picked the wrong Parrish girl.”
Those comments hurt Grace like sharp knives. Standing in front, Claire still looked coy as if she didn’t hear anything.
Claire handed Grace a glass of wine. Grace raised her hand subconsciously to accept it. When she turned, she accidentally knocked the glass out of Claire’s hand. The wine stained Claire’s dress.
“Be careful, Grace.” Claire frowned lightly and said with a hint of distaste in her clearly condescending tone.
“Grace, how could you be so careless?” Antonio heard the noise and came over. Frowning, he stood before Claire and said coldly to Grace, “Apologize to Claire now.”
Grace froze. She said through gritted teeth, her voice trembling slightly, “Why should I? She set me up.”
“Enough.” Antonio cut Grace off impatiently. “Claire is your sister. Even if she makes a mistake, you should forgive her.”
Grace couldn’t breathe as if there was a gigantic rock on her chest. She looked at Antonio and couldn’t find her sweet boyfriend anymore.
Without another word, Grace turned and left the party.
The night wind was chilling. Grace walked alone on the empty street. Her dress couldn’t shield her from the cold. The clicking sounds of her high heels were clear as she walked down the pavement. But she felt like she was walking down a path made of sharp blades.
Antonio gave Grace the heels a few months ago as a random gift. Grace thought they were the new arrivals of a designer brand. Later, Grace found out she could only have the heels because Claire didn’t like them and returned them to Antonio.
More ironically, the shoes were one size smaller for Grace. But she had ignored the pain and wore them all night. At that moment, Grace realized that her heels were worn out and were bleeding.
She was dragging her feet, but she didn’t stop walking.
