Chapter 10 Dead to Me
The last piece of writing was called “The Regretful Marriage“. It was written two years ago, the day Antonio proposed to Grace.
“Grace is a gentle, sweet partner, but she’s not her.” Antonio poured his heart out, detailing his inner struggles in the piece of writing.
“On the day I proposed to her, as I looked into her eyes, another woman’s face emerged in my mind.
“She’s not my ‘Moon‘, but at least she can bring me closer to my ‘Moon!”
Those words stabbed Grace’s heart hard like a sharp knife. She slumped into the chair as tears blurred her vision, and sh could hardly breathe.
The last sentence he wrote was the last straw that broke the camel’s back.
“The only love of my life has become eternal moonlight, and Grace is the moon’s reflection.”
She slammed the desk abruptly. The second she turned off the computer, she stood up, panting heavily, and tears streamed down her cheeks silently.
As she looked around, her gaze fell on items she had carefull preserved, such as her luxurious jewelry, cute stuffed animal and warm shawls. They were all gifts from Antonio, and she cherished them so much. And now, she realized she was

She walked up to the mirror and stared at her reflection, the woman with exquisite makeup and a red dress. In Antonio’s eyes, this woman never was “Grace“; it was another “Moon” in his fantasy.
She sneered, picked up a pair of scissors from the desk, and cut her long hair fiercely. Strands of hair fell to the floor, reminding her of the fragments of her youth and compromises over the past twenty years.
Then she walked back to the desk and tore off the last page of the calendar.
On it was written, “Marry the man I love the most in the most beautiful wedding dress.”
She crumpled up the piece of paper into a ball and threw it into the trash can with great force.
The sky was brightening gradually. She pulled open the curtains, and the morning light flooded the room.
“Everything from the past is dead to me now,” having let go, she murmured under her breath, smiling.
