Chapter 14 Mr. Kaufman, This Is My Home
Grace never expected that Antonio would find this place and that he would come so quickly.
She had thought that someone like Antonio, who prioritized his career above all else, would never abandon the mess back home and come all the way to find her. But now, he stood outside the door, looking exhausted yet determined.
“Grace, come home with me,” his voice was as deep as ever but carried an undeniable command.
Grace leaned against the door frame, looking at him expressionlessly, “Mr. Kaufman, this is my home.”
Her indifference was like a knife, stabbing fiercely into Antonio’s chest. He opened his mouth and his tone finally softened, “Grace, I know you read those… those words, those were all absurd past, not true. You have to believe me, I have never been insincere to you.”
Grace sneered and said in a calm tone, “The past? Absurd? Antonio, did you ever think, when you wrote those things, that I was right beside you, accompanying you, loving you, while you were reminiscing about someone else?”
Antonio froze for a moment, his expression stiff. He had never imagined that this would have such a profound impact on Grace.
“I admit that I was wrong, I neglected your feelings,” he lowered his head, his voice unusually soft, “but all of that is in

the past. Grace, come back with me, as long as you return, you will still be Mrs. Kaufman, and I will do everything in my power to make amends.”
Grace stared at him, her eyes devoid of any ripples,
“compensation? Antonio, making me her shadow, that was supposed to be your so–called compensation, right? I haven’t cared for a long time.”
“No, Grace,” Antonio said urgently. “You love me, otherwise you wouldn’t do so much for me. You still love me, you’re just angry, that’s why you left me deliberately!”
Grace laughed more sarcastically when she heard this and said, “Antonio, do you think I am still the same person as before? In those years, I thought as long as I worked hard enough, you would notice me. But now I understand, some people will always only look at the ones they want to see.”
Antonio clenched his fist, his voice trembling, “Grace, I admit was wrong, but we still have a future. Come back, I can change, I…”
Grace interrupted him, “Antonio, the future? We haven’t had future for a long time. Your so–called ‘love‘ is nothing but using me as a substitute for that ‘moon‘. Unfortunately, I refuse to be anyone’s shadow anymore.”
Antonio’s Adam’s apple moved, wanting to retort, but he realized he couldn’t find the words.
“Please leave,” Grace said coldly, giving him no more chances and closed the door.
Outside the door, Antonio stood still. He raised his hand and touched his face, only to realize that his fingertips were

already wet with tears.
Did he cry? For Grace?

Inside the door, Grace leaned against it, tears silently sliding down. She was not a heartless person, how could she just let go of ten years of emotions?
But those diaries, those words, lingered in her mind like a nightmare, waking her up time and time again.
In Antonio and Claire’s “most beautiful time“, how much did she do for him?
She took out all her savings to make up for the shortfall, went door to door to apologize, and even ended up in the hospital from drinking excessively to socialize. And him? He only remembered Claire’s “radiance.”
She could not bear such humiliation and deception, and she was unwilling to trap herself in a hopeless relationship
anymore.
Judy walked down the stairs and saw Grace leaning against the door, tears flowing uncontrollably.
Judy’s heart felt like it had been cut by a knife. She gently patted Grace’s back and comforted her, “Grace, he didn’t deserve it. You’ve already done enough, but he didn’t cherisl
it.”
Grace slowly lifted her head, her voice choked but filled with relief, “Mom, you’re right, he wasn’t worth it.”
After crying, her emotions gradually calmed down. The entanglement and unwillingness seemed to be washed away

along with the tears.
After a sleepless night, she felt that some things had to be clarified, not for Antonio’s sake, but for her own.
After calming down, she dialed the phone number, “Antonio, we need to talk.”
